Best time for Mod2?

I've currently got mod2 booked for 3 weeks time at 14:10
I was looking earlier to see if there was a closer date... There was one for 2 weeks time at 08:20 (in fact, there's one for tomorrow at the same time!! )
Would it be better doing the test during Scarborough's equivalent of rush hour? or should I stick with the slightly quieter time?

Personally I'd get it as early as you can, because otherwise you'll have too long to mull and stress over it if you have it late on.

Both my tests (mod 1 and 2) were the first ones of the day, which is how I wanted it....I feel fresher and less stressed first thing in the morning....and I passed both first time so it worked for me.

Technically though, it makes no difference.

The benefit of having a rush hour mod2 is that you could be spending half the time sat in traffic...although any decent examiner will know the roads and take you away from the traffic.

Rush hour may be better, if you find yourself sat in traffic for an hour you can't fuck it up - giving the examiner no reason to fail you.

I'd go for the rush hour one, yes there will be more traffic around but as long as you keep your wits about you, it may actually mean you end up spending some of those 38 to 40 mins (yes, that's all Mod 2 is) in traffic. They will know the best routes to take to avoid this though so don't count on it

Rush hour surely: if you can find standing traffic & filter thro and away from your examiner, he'll have to assume you're performing perfectly!!

I think I may change for the earlier date & time slot. Providing I can get someone from work to promise me they'll actually be in on time instead of the usual 'turn up at 10 past 8' (manager included!!)
It's only a 5min journey from work to the test centre but I'd sooner be there 15 mins earlier.

Get it done as early as possible, time irrelevant but rush hour is a bonus.

Sounds like you're ready to take it so don't stress about the time, I assume you're not going to plan your journey when having a full license around times. If you can ride safe then crack on.

Unfortunately both closer dates have now gone - I'll just keep checking and go for it

As it happened though, I would have been screwed for the next day slot! I was on my own at work until 8.10! I know I still could have got to the test centre in time but I'd sooner get there in good time and less stressed

Did mine at 9:37 I think. School run was coming to an end, the place was deserted. We went around residential areas as well which were also very quiet.

Having said that, when I passed my car test, it was near school chucking out time, but I also remember it being quiet. I think the examiner chooses a route based on experience as to which ones are likely to be rammed (to the point of being pointless).

The idea is to provide a 'range' of traffic conditions to ride in. Not really good if you are stuck in gridlock.

I had my Mod2 at 8.15am in Enfield, slap bang in the middle of rush hour. It can be good and bad to do a test in rush hour; sitting in traffic wasting time Vs more potential hazards. I'd say overall you break even, but if you are confident to filter don't be scared to show the examiner you can safely.
Remember too the test will be a mixture of conditions, so you won't stay in traffic all the time.

I may well need it too...I found an earlier date yesterday (17th @ 10.20) so changed my booking. Unfortunately on my way home the bike decided to eat a gudgeon pin circlip
Got it stripped down this morning. Not very easy while crossing one's fingers...must have worked though 'cause the barrel appears to have survived
New piston's on order, should be with me on Wed. Just in time to fit it and make sure it runs okay before the cancellation date (12th!)

Only problem with rush hour, apart from the traffic is if the examiner expects you to filter, too many things can go wrong when filtering especially if you are riding to test standards.

Always wondered about that, for some reason I imagined they would hold it against you if you didn't when stationary for a long time.
If that is true then it seems safer not to. Filtering when safe does make you look in control but not worth it if they don't expect it, plus is wastes time!

It's a bit of a fallacy to think that having your test in rush hour is going to mean half your test sat in traffic. The examiner will simply get you to turn off if there are queues of traffic holding up your test route. It's no surprise that having a test in rush hours means busy roads and potential gridlock, the examiner will have taken thousands of tests in rush hours, so he will know the roads that are bad and will have alternate routes planned should the traffic be too bad.
