I've done a wedding video for a friend last week, and I ordered some VHS tapes and a wedding VHS case from this company website, AP DigitalShop in Manchester.
I needed the stuff fairly urgently, so I placed my order and paid an additional £7 for next day delivery. This was on Wednesday 12th May 2004.
Shortly after I placed my order, I remembered I needed something else too - they don't have online order tracking or anything, so I tried to phone them to change the order. I got an answering machine saying nobody was there to take the call, and that I should use e-mail instead.
So I e-mailed them, they never replied.
Two days later, on the Friday, my order hadn't arrived, so I phoned the back to find out if they'd taken payment - they hadn't. In the UK, companies don't take payment until the order ships, so as of Friday 14th May when I spoke to the bank (and the day my order was supposed to arrive), my order had not even shipped.
I e-mailed the company again (after another futile telephone call) to find out the status of the order. They never replied.
Some 2 hours later, I decided to e-mail them again to cancel the order, and go into town to try to find the things I needed. Again, they never replied to my e-mail.
On Monday 17th April, in the afternoon, the order arrived - FIVE DAYS after I'd ordered it and paid for next day delivery! It had been posted on the 14th - the same day I'd told them to cancel it. To make matters worse, the white leather wedding VHS case is covered in black fingerprints and is totally unsuitable for use.
The package contained a compliment slip with an e-mail address on it that I hadn't seen on the site, so I e-mailed them there - it bounced straight back.
Another futile telephone call, and time to e-mail a complaint. I gave them until 5pm yesterday to come up with a suitable resolution (at the very least I want the £7 back that I paid for next day delivery - a service which they failed miserably to provide).
They didn't reply. I still haven't been able to contact these people by phone, or get any sign of life from them at all.
I'm currently speaking to Trading Standards about this.
If any of you live in Manchester and fancy paying a visit to their offices (The Works, 5 Union Street, Manchester) to find out what the hell they're up to, feel free. I'd love to find out what sort of people are running that place. |
