Yep you need them on the front and back, displayed clearly, of the correct size and colour (as you would buy them).

Only if you're on a provisional licence with a CBT. James-Nrg could have a full licence Wink

And if James has passed his car driving test before February 2001 he doesn't need to display L plates. If he passed after February 2001 he would have needed to do CBT, after which he wouldn't need L plates either. Thumbs Up

Only if you're a learner.

I don't have l plates on my 50cc peds.

'Cos I've got a full bike license!

A lot of kids seem to be cutting their l plates in half. Don't really see what they're trying to achieve.

They don't look cool but if you get caught without them you could face a £60 fine and 3 points for each missing L plate. But from what your saying you don't seem the type to not use them.

Good luck with the CBT Thumbs Up.

Consider getting some trousers too to stop your legs becoming grated cheese in an off. It's been said a million times but an off at 30mph has the same sort of result on you whether you're on a moped or bike when it comes to sliding down the road. Thumbs Up

Jeans won't offer much in terms of abrasion resistance. They wear down quickly and might 'snag' the road surface which stops you sliding and makes you roll and tumble and brake more bones etc. They don't offer any weather protection either - you'll get cold and wet legs easily which will mess up your concentration. There's some specially made ones called Draggin Jeans which are armoured and thick, designed for rodeo and motorcycle stuff.

A good set of cordura based textiles with built in armour in the knees and hips would be well suited for road use. They also keep your legs warm and dry. Some will have a removable thermal lining (I went through winter with one and it was a godsend). Leathers will slide better in an off but at speeds of 30mph I don't think the extra bit of abrasion resistance of leathers would be worth it, considering that they aren't usually waterproof (they soak up the water and go all soggy). You also need to maintain leather stuff regularly so it doesn't crack or dry out etc.

Get yourself down to a shop and try lots of pairs on. Thumbs Up

To be honest I would be inclined to wear jeans over leathers on a 'ped.

Firstly, if you do come off, you've wrecked a £35 pair of jeans, not a £110 pair of leather trousers.

Secondly, if you come off at ped speed the worst you will get in almost any situation is gravel rash. Painful, but not worth £110 of my money.

Thirdly, and people always say this shouldn't affect your judgment, but it probably will, I know it affected mine, You will look like a bit of a gimp in full leathers on a scootay.

These are my reasons for wearing jeans on a 50, but the choice is yours.

Cyclists can easily hit 30mph, all they wear is lycra, extremely protective.

You can get padded kevlar jeans on ebay for £35 which would be ideal for using on a moped.

Why are you waiting so long for your CBT?
