Hi, I have always been interested in fitting a nitrous oxide system to my bike, which is a NSR125RK (only found this out recently as I thought I had a NS125RK).

I am only looking for a minor HP increase, 5 - 10 Hp as I don't want to cause any damage to the engine, but I would like to be able to increase this if desired in the likely event of me getting a bigger bike. The system must be pretty inconspicuous or at best completely hidden.

Also I am not too sure about the legalities of Nitrous Oxide on the road. From a couple of web sites, most of which american say that as long as the system is disengaged it is OK.

If anyone knows any kits available please could they let me know and if anyone knows of anything else I should know about it would be greatly appreciated.

on its own, perfectly legal on the road - no issues whatsoever. I reckon you'd be spendin £500-£750 for a ride in ride out installation, max.

Not legal to use on the road to my knowledge though it can be installed but unarmed.

If you do a search on the forum you'll find some stuff on NOS kits etc, including prices.

Personally on a 125 2 stroke its only going to make it need more frequent rebuilds, less reliable and also the gas doesn't last very long.

@hex - a bottle is going to last a hell of a lot longer being ported into a tiny 125cc chamber rather than a 600/1000cc+ four! - and I'd put money on it being totally legal - you don't even have to carry the 'Hazchem' stickers for compressed gas cylinders etc (although personally I'd rather have my motor stickered up Thumbs Up )

I was only interested in NOS as I thought it was one of the more reliable HP increasement mods available and that the HP/£ was pretty good.

If you think that NOS would be unsuitable for a 125 as I thought it could be, which is the reason I posted, does anyone have any suggestions in raising the HP.

I would like to keep it road legal, so no racing exhausts and I'm not really interested in increasing the CC.

At the moment I'd say that the bike is doing 0-60 in about 8-9 seconds and the top speed is about 75-80 indicated. I am not really mechanically minded about bikes as I am pretty new to the road.

I have heard that the NSR125RK aren't actually restricted, is this true?

If anyone can help it would be appreciated and if possible could you could give a estimated power increasement and price.

Sell the NSR, buy a 600.

Between £1000 and £7000 and expect 80 to 110bhp. Thumbs Up

Also if you are on 'L' plates the maximum power you are allowed is 14bhp, so NOS is a no-no.

Even so, doing your test would be easier, cheaper and less likely to blow parts of your body off when the piston flies through the tank. Smile

lol @ urban myth #247 - in fact, a properly set up system (with a sensible bhp addition) is no more dangerous than any other performance enhancing mod . . .

Nitros is legal to have fitted on a road going vehicle but it is illegal to use it on the road.

Hi

Can think of no reason why it would be illegal to install or use nitrous on a road bike in the UK. Insurance might well be a problem though.

However an NSR125 will manage around 25hp when derestricted, so a 5hp~10hp increase is 20%~40%, and that will have an effect on engine life. Also remember that the bottle will not last very long at all.

To get it to work properly you will need to have a fiddle with the ignition timing, and gearing as the nitrous is likely to have a noticeable effect on when and how the engine produces power.

As mentioned above it will not be learner legal, and would be an expensive way to go marginally quicker (full system with controller, etc, is likely to set you back around £700) considering that if you had a full licence you could get a bike with that much power quite cheaply.

All the best

Keith

The other trouble is the power will be completely unmanageable, and a bike that handles well will often waste a bike with more power through the twisties. I can't see that using nitrous in a corner would be a clever plan! Laughing

The only use for NOS on a bike like that is if you were going to sprint it.
It will be pricey (dont get one of these half assed ebay kits) however I reckon you could posibly run a shot of about 20hp with a progressive controler (more money again).

Would be good for a laugh, and if set up right it shouldn't damage your engine.
