Restriction testing

Ok, would just like to know if this actually ever happens, i don't know of ANYONE who has been tested!

I got away with it for the 2 years, never got done for speeding either though or had an accident which may suggest I wasn't restricted.

do you think it's a good idea for me to get a 400 and not restrict it if i have a restricted licence?, i did it for a on my ped for a bit but had a crash and luckily the guy how checked it couldn't be bothered looking so i won and got paid for the bikes repairs.....

I thought you'd have to produce the certificate of conformity/ restriction or whatever it's called? All it takes is a slightly bike aware copper to think, hang on a tick - this licence is only XYZ/33bhp and yet this nice looking 400cc bike would be putting out 50-60bhp as standard . . .

I would suggest getting it restricted for the certification then take the restrictors out as you then have the paper work.

i've heard quite a few insurance companies don't ask for the certificate and other documents to prove its been restricted

I'd still rather play it safe, even if it means paying a bit just for some documents.

Just imagine if you caused an accident, if found out, your insurance would not honour any claim, and you could be sued for 1000's if a 3rd party is involved, not to mention getting arrested for it...

yeah i suppose it's not worth it really, because if i carry on getting my ncb for the 2 years i will have 3, which means alot cheaper insurance when i get a bigger bike

Only got two months until my 2 years is up! I cant imagine how fast any bike i ride will feel having only ever ridden a sub 33bhp machine.
I'll be looking for something like a KTM Duke II or 640 supermoto when the time comes.

They only do dyno spot-checks in mainland Europe.

My restricted licence is up in December. I really can't wait.

My bikes not restricted, hasn't been for most of the time I've owned it, my ZXR wasn't restricted either. I just want to be completely legal ASAP as I really don't want to get done for it.

Although my ZXR was never restricted and I did get a producer for that when I had it and 33bhp was never mentioned at all, during getting pulled over by a bike cop or when I took my documents in.

Never had a restriction cert or anything and I now ride a Blade on a res'd licence.
If you crash, how're they gonna know you're not restricted? Take your binned bike to a Dyno and PROVE without a shadow of a doubt it was like that before you crashed?

3 bikes, almost 2 years of riding 33bhp, lots of mates doing it and we've never had a problem with restriction.
I think we all need to stop being paranoid and face the facts.
There is only 1 Police Dyno in the UK (Maybe 2 now), the law doesn't state you have to have a cert, the Law doesn't state you have to be able to prove your bike's 33bhp and most insurance companies don't stipulate they're insuring a 33bhp bike.

No, but when you do insure it they take for granted that you have the correct license for the bike you are trying to insure.

Hence they suggest you study your insurance certificate and rectify any mistakes (i.e. the fact that your insuring a bike without the correct license.)

Call me paranoid, but if you cause someone serious injury or even death (I sincerely hope that never happens to anyone on this forum!), without a doubt your bike will be examined. Do you fancy taking the risk of doing a "bird" just to have more horses?

From what i've been told too, when a bike is restricted, often the acceleration is not affected, only top speed. Which is approx 112 mph on a VFR 400. That's plenty fast enough for me for my first "real" bike.
