Hello,
Can anyone recommend a decent dash cam, ideally under £30 but will stretch if its a good en.
Would be looking for something fairly small that can fit behind the mirror so its not obvious to every passing thief.
My head unit can support video in from a front camera so if I could hook it up to that then it would be cool.

Thanks for the input.
Grant

Techmoan Run through his reviews and make your choice....

But for £30 forget it. Rolling Eyes

It really is time someone made on built into a rear view mirror, that you could just drop in place of your std one.

I had one of these as a helmet cam, now the wife uses it as a dashcam (replaced it with an SJCAM SJ4000). It's (reasonably) unobtrusive and quality is ok.

The SJ4000 has a dashcam option in the software.
You might use it like a gopro elsewhere too.
The clumsy part mounting on the mirror is getting power to it, but otherwise it is about the best spot.

Remember that ghost HD for £60? I just use that and one of the flat mounts stuck to the dash board.

When I ride it goes onto the helmet, when I drive it goes into the car.

Best of both worlds, I keep a charging cable in the car.

We need to stop calling them 'Dash Cams'.

Not many of them give a view of the Dash. Rolling Eyes

Todays 'Deal of the day' on ebay is actually a dash cam.
Only £9.99: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-5-IN-CAR-VEHICLE-HD-DASH-DASHBOARD-CAMERA-IR-DVR-CAM-CCTV-NIGHT-VISION-RECORD-/381333604488

I use one of those in my van. It starts recording as soon as it sees power. The picture is ok and it records sound but you have to get pretty close to vehicles to pick out a numberplate. It's not a fish-eye view which is good in one respect that it doesn't make you look like you are going faster than you are but the downsie is you only get a 90 degree FOV or so.

Also automatically chops the video up into sections of so-many minutes each which is handy. Certainly good value given the price.

Mio MiVue - i think i paid 79 quid for it ... but it got me a 45 quid discount on the 200 i pay for insurance.

Worth checking with your insurer i think.

Is there any downside to this? What happens if the camera isn't recording (fuse/whateverz), you have a prang and they insist on seeing the footage?
Without the footage, would it be an increased excess or something similar?

I use one of these https://uk.transcend-info.com/Products/No-498. I bought it off a colleague for 20 quid, think it cost him 80 off ebay. So far it works well and the playback footage is pretty dam good.
