Just used my phones satnav and its pretty awesome, but this is useless when on the bike,

can anyone recommend a holder for it, one that attaches to the handles bars nice and easy but dont look like a brick attached to my bars. something small and cheap that i can trust to hold my phone at speed,

seen a few online but not sure which one to get.

I can sell you one of these if it is any use, the reviews and descriptions state that it is fine for smart phones and sat navs. It has been used once, so is in perfect condition. Let me know if you're interested and what you think it is worth.

You're looking for a RAM-Mount. I've had one of these on my old 125 and transferred it to my CBR 600F and, it's great!

Here's an old thread: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=247497&highlight=ram+mount

Google that and you'll find what you need Smile Great bit of kit!

Edit: Here you go

I use this.

https://store.aquapac.net/explore-product-range/waterproof-phone-cases/large-armband-case-218.html

Happily takes my s3 in its casemate tough case.

Keeps the phone dry and safe, bluetooth rather than wires for the sound.
Can still operate the screen. Thumbs Up

Not had a problem with battery but then, never used it for long enough to be a problem.

Could always get one of these for such situations.

I bought one of these for my galaxy S2 last week, not used it in the rain yet but it's a really good quality case and mount and would have no doubt it would keep the phone dry and safe, even if i crashed into the worlds biggest puddle. It's a pretty big case but it has the option of a hardwire kit that is also waterproof, so the case is a little longer than the phone to accomodate this.
Also there is a big block of squishy rubber inside the case moulded to the exact shape of the phone so it would take some serious punishment and would confidently say it would survive the average bike crash Laughing . you can also position the phone on the ball mount to record rides and stuff using the phone camera which is handy.

There is also a cool free speedo/dash app in the play store so you can use your phone as a bike computer with loads of functions including a 0-60 race timer Laughing , elevation, average speed, direction of travel and loads more i cant remember. also handy for checking how far out your proper speedo is compared to gps speed

Apps called Ulysse speedometer incase anyones interested

I've got 'Ultimate addons' waterproof cover with holder. Inexpensive and works fine. The phone survived two drops at speed when I didn't attach it properly.

I've got RAM holder for my action camera. It's amazing but expensive for just a mount. You will need separate cover for that.

They're pretty useless imo. Had one & never realy used it unless it was keeping the phone dry whilst charging.

I run navfree/apple maps on the iFail & use headphones to listen to the directions. Takes a little bit of getting used to, however much easier and safer than staring at your tank waiting to get knocked off Thumbs Up

You need to get an app called waze it's great gives routes depending on traffic and best of all it's freeeeeee
No I don't work for them

dont seem to be any out there for my phone (xperia play) so may have to go for one of them bag type ones with a zip, i did want an open one where you can still use it without taking it out the bag.

I think Waze is better than Navfree, it includes "safety cameras" but make sure you set data compression "on" otherwise it can use a fair bit of data. A friend uses it as an emergency services driver and really reckons it. Navfree sent me to a housing estate rather than a stately home last year, very embarrassing with a car full of German tourists!

To give an idea of how good Waze is, I dropped 'er indoors to do some rapid shopping, was testing Waze as I had just downloaded it. I immediately got stuck in traffic while going round the block to avoid parking charges, on the second "lap" Waze was telling me that the traffic was doing 4mph on the high road.

The advantage Navfree has is that it uses no data so will work when you have no signal. However last weekend at the RTTW it forgot it had a voice, so I couldn't use it to find the M6 non toll road.

For me, sat nav on the bike is phone in inner pocket wrapped in a placky bag earphones and a car charger plugged into socket on the bike and away.

Hope this helps.

Does the one I have for sale not fit your needs? It states it handles smart phones fine.

Can you guys actually see your screen with them?

I bought a mount for my HTC Wildfire and couldn't see the screen for the life of me during the day time. Not unless I used my hand as a shield to cover the screen... causing me to be hugely distracted from the road and unsafe.

Phone + Headphones and a look at Google Maps for me before I go now. Thumbs Up

I've got one of these:

https://www.rammount.com/NewProducts/xgripholder/tabid/3687/Default.aspx#/

Only for the dry but useful if you have different phones or change phone alot.

Holds the phone (Galaxy S3) no probs, unfortunately it keeps switching from landscape to portrait everytime I go over a bump (when using sygic), but I think there's an app that could stop that - haven't got round to looking yet so still using the Rider 2 for bike nav (getting a bit old now though).

bikertomm - sent you a link by PM re phone cover.
