Run it at 4-5000 rpm and measure the voltage at the battery with the lights off, then on. It shouldn't drop that drastically. If it doesn't then you'll need to find out if something is draining it. That means using a multimeter to measure current flow with the bike switched off.
Disconnect either of the battery leads, select the highest current range on the meter and connect the meter in series with the lead (one lead to the battery, one to the battery lead) making sure you get the polarity right. If it's the earth lead you've disconnected then the black lead goes to the battery lead and the red lead to the terminal. If it's the positive lead, then the read lead goes to the battery and the black lead to the battery lead.
With everything off, it should read zero. If it does, switch the range down to the lowest current range and it should still read zero. If it doesn't then you've got some investigation to do to find out where the problem is. If it is zero, then it's probably the battery. |
This^^ BUT be VERY careful not to accidentally switch anything on, even the ignition, with the meter connected in series with the battery. Unless your meter has a high range (10A or more, you'd usually need to plug the leads into a different socket) the current drawn by your instrument lights could fry the meter. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink.
