The story is actually about a video being sent to schools to educate people about drink driving, speeding, seatbelts etc., but in the statistics box it says that 1 in 30 motorcyclists die on the roads? What is that based on? Seems a tad high.

These statistics are getting silly:

This one - 1 in 30 motorcyclists die in road accidents, the one about road safety - 1 in 5 (and later 1 in 4) road accidents involve motorcyclists...

Whatever next?

1 in 3 government mistakes are caused by motorcyclists
1 in 8 animal deaths worldwide are caused by motorcyclists
1 in 2 motorcyclists cause road distractions by nodding
1 in 1 accidents where a car leaves a junction and hits a motorcyclist is caused by said motorcyclist nodding to another motorcyclist on the road

Where will this insanity end... Lets just blame everything on the evil biker Exclamation

"There's lies, then damn lies, then statistics"

They'll make 'em up if they can't find one that fits - don't worry about it! Even if it is true, no-one ever goes out intending to have an accident, so remember the risks, but don't ever stop having fun!

Very Happy

Well I've just emailed them to ask them the source of their statistics. I don't really anticipate receiving a reply. Rolling Eyes

That is very scary to read, it's almost enough to put me off buying a bike!! I don't think it will though.

If all statistics were analysed like that, people wouldn't dare get out of bed in the morning.

In 2003 a total of 45 bikers were supposed to have died on roads in Wales. Meaning that in principal Wales has 1305 bikers (30x45 - the 45 in accidents)... Doesn't this figure seem oddly low to people?

Particularly as Wales had a population of 2,903,085 in the 2002 census. You can't tell me that out of nearly 3 million people, only 1300 of them are bikers!

Thats my attitude. If I'm going to die, I'm going to die. Whether it happens on my bike tomorrow or in my bed in 60 years time I can't change it.

Hush, you have to remember that 45 bikers died in ONE year. I think the statistics mean in a persons life time.

Anyway the statistics are bullshit.

Thats pretty scary can't believe its true though, what would the serious injury rate be 1 in 10?

Heres some old statistics giving KSI rates

https://www.roadracers.co.uk/accidents.htm

Title of the post should have been a clue, actually were all going to die at some point or other. 1 in 1 Motorcylists die, shit now thats a fucker.

Okay so lets move it over a persons lifetime.

45 people die in one year, if the average lifetime is 75 years, and we assume that 45 people die each year you're still only looking at a total of 97,875 bikers in a population of nearly 3 million. Still doesn't add up.

Hmmn that would be 1 in 30 of the population is a biker, can't be that far out?

On a side note over half the bikers that die in North Wales aren't actually from the area Rolling Eyes.

I wouldn't worry about it just take care of yourselves and you'll be fine. Statistics often make interesting reading but are generally useless......unless you're the cops and trying to get more speed scameras put up.

True in the same way that 25 out of 25 drivers will die.

I wouldn't take much notice to it, I don't know how they came up with the figure although I'd like to know.

It IS a problem because this is the kind of **** twisted statistical lies that help the morons in europe impose ridiculous legislation on motorcycles, pushing up the costs and leaving only the t**ts who buy bikes and only ride them three days a year like nobs*, while people who ride them everyday and biking is a big part of life have to put up with the cost and stupid restrictions... Evil or Very Mad

*no aiming at fair weather bikers at all, only those ridding like morons, which unfortunately there are allot of.

Okay okay, it's only the title of my thread that says that. The article statistic says "on the roads." Rolling Eyes

The simple solution to this is not to become a statistic. Don't be stupid, think before you start filtering and keep looking for junctions etc.. you get the gist. Another statistic if I remember correctly is that many cyclists that do die are young, inexperienced riders who don't know their limits (says it all really). When you start riding obviousley you dont know your limits but you can find them out safely or maybe less dangerously. Bit of a rant for some reason.
