It's a bit battered and has done 92000 miles, yes 92000 Shocked I know the previous owner very well, it used to be his company bike and has spent all its life blatting up motorways towards London. Under the grime and dirt the old girl is in pretty good nick, there are a few issues to address, leaky rad, shot fork seals etc. but the motor is a peach. It was a victim of the wrongly fitted conrod issue that effected a couple of early ones, so the motor had a dealer overhaul at 45000. There is a weird electrical issue that keeps throwing up fault codes on the dash, we reckon it's a bad earth or a chafed wire somewhere.

It is though a complete and utter b*stard to work on, everything needs to come off the bike to get to what you are trying to clean up!

Oh well, it's booked on a ferry to Andora in May next year, so I'd better crack on!

Very nice bike! It's the kind of thing I'd have if I could afford to have a dealer do all my maintenance for me...as it is I prefer nakeds and bikini faired bikes which are sane enough to work on.

That said...I am thinking about something like a ZZR1200 for my next bike...just for absurd power and autobahn-munching ease...

Take out the engine and put it into a hard tail chopper, now that would be some project! Laughing

Laughing Laughing Laughing

I really don't think it needs any more power! It's a bit of a barge compared to even my ZX9, and to be honest it's not the bike I would buy as my only transport. But what it will do is transport me and Julie to Europe with a bit of comfort, she finds the tea tray of a pillion seat on the 9 a tad uncomfortable, so hopefully this will do the job.

The mileage isn't an issue, in some ways I'd rather have a bike that's been used than one that's sat around for years.

I don't have a problem with hard tail chops, had a BSA powered one many years ago, but this would be far too much! And it won't become a streetfighter, a pointless exercise I reckon.

Some TLC, get some hard luggage and ride it to sunnier climates is the plan!

Beechbone, I hear you, it's far too bloody complicated!

But there aint that many 200bhp 100ib/ft+ Hardtail chopper's around, so it would be pretty unique.

I like ZZR1400's, any huge IL4 Kawasaki engine is immense, but I really do think that level of power and torque would be better served in a performance naked/ high powered cruiser or just a fuck off hard as nails Chopper. There just isn't enough 3/4cylinder high powered chopper's out there, and any nice custom build that doesn't use a Harley clone jack hammer for a powerplant is good with me!

I also think that Kawasaki should have built a ZZR1400 powered bike to outperform the V-max and even Ducati's Diavel, as they have the biggest best engine just going to waste powering one very limited market hyper tourer. They could even put the motor in a big Dessert style bike, or even a Quad. I've seen a ZZR1100 powered quad bike, so the 1400 is a nice next step.
