Now I can FINALLY ride that thing I've kept in the garage for weeks.

Despite being up until 1am and having to get up at 3am to get to Exeter, caffeine saw me through without keeling over!

3 minors - 2 for speed (taking a while to get up to speed) and 1 for steering (being close to the curb on a junction).

If I can tax and insure it in one go tonight, I'll be right out there Very Happy

All the best Cool

The short answer is I am terrible at thinking ahead and realising that I am going to screw myself over. My university residence is a long way from Exeter and my test was early in the morning, with an hour lesson beforehand.
The long answer is...long.

Depends how far from home you travel. If you keep fairly local, might be cheaper carrying a local recovery garage phone number instead.
Keep in mind, alot of banks offer deals with certain accounts.
I know my Halifax debt card has AA cover, phone and travel insurance for £5 a month
Might be worth looking into.

Quote:
Previous Tax Disc or SORN declaration expired on:01 09 2012
It is an offence to be the registered keeper of a vehicle that is unlicensed and does not have SORN declared. You can apply for a tax disc from today's date, with a License Start Date of the 1st of this month. However, please note the above offence will still apply. DVLA's Continuous Registration Enforcement Centre may be in contact with the registered keeper regarding this gap in licensing.

Well shit. Looks like I'm going to be fined for failing to declare a SORN or whatever Evil or Very Mad

Nothing I can do about that. I just go through the options, give them the vehicle's details, and then it informs me that there has been a gap in the licencing, which is an offence, and that they will be in touch Shocked

Also waiting for the MIB to update with my insurance so I can actually apply for a tax disc...it doesn't let me go beyond the page AFTER the warning page since it cannot detect my insurance.

The new government website is ugly as hell. And I dislike having to report to big brother in such a way.

Oh and I forgot to mention a lorry almost reversed over me at the end and my examiner saved my life by riding around it and smacking on the driver's door. Curiously I wasn't worried about being squashed, I was just thinking that this would fail me because I couldn't get away without ditching the bike.

Well done, and great choice of bike. Wink

Don't sweat the DVLA, just ignore any demands for a bribe until you're at a courtroom door. They're only after the money, they don't care about actually prosecuting you (which won't get them it anyway).

Scandalously not! Shocked

The magic of flip fronts and using the pay at pump lane?

Both the bike and me are soaked now, perhaps it's time to stop enjoying myself so much.

Well done, re the DVLA and the sorn just go and get it taxed in person at the post office,

You might get a letter from the DVLA but if you do just write back saying its now taxed and that will be the end of it, or was with me.

To get the tax at the po you need v5, mot, and insurance, and payment,

Well it wasn't on MID this morning so I went to the local Swinton branch and got them to print my policy, then took that to the post office to get a tax disc. Barely been off the bike since Laughing

But it was neither taxed nor SORN'd for all of September apparently, so I'm awaiting the threatening letters regarding that.
