Ok so I want to take the screen off.....
Has screws, I get that bit. has nuts on back get that bit too..
Cant see the lower screws as the clock and surrounding is in the way.
Can see 3 screws for the clock and surround..
Question is,. are there nuts behind the clock part ? I dont want to be taking them out to get to the lower screen screws and find I have to take the bloody fairing n stuff off.
Maybe a stupid question but not got a Haynes bible and I refuse just to try it cos I want to go out on it tomorrow lol |

Just take the fairing off altogether. It's not held on by much. Eight set screws and four electrical snap connectors as I recall.
Then you'll be able to see what you're doing properly. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Been a while but as I remember to take the fairing off you remove the mirrors (2 bolts each), two bolts up underneath the front of it and two screws that attach it to the tank.
You can then pull the whole fairing forward away from the clocks and disconnect the snap connectors for the headlight and flashers.
The screen itself is held onto the fairing by six screws. They screw into well-nuts so you might struggle to get them all properly undone then lined up and tightened again.
I don't recall ever having to take the clock surround off. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Wait, you're spraying the fairing or the screen?
Either way, take it all apart. It's 8 screws, it takes minutes, and is negligable compared to doing even the most half arsed of rattle can jobs.
Just be aware that the fairing is under tension when it's all bolted on, so be prepared to bend it a bit while putting it back, and put all the screws in loosely before tightening any up. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Indeed. Five minute job to take the fairing off. Maybe a ten minute job to put it back on because you have to fiddle the bolts into place.
It'll be far easier to paint any of the bits with them off the bike anyway. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
