PostPosted: 18:38 - 17 Oct 2012    Post subject: Respect for 125cc <--- Riders Reply with quote

Recently bought a 1981 Honda H100 and am using it to get to work, its the slowest thing ive ridden for a long while, but actually quite fun.

Anyway, collected the bike from Horsham yesterday, its a small bike so its road presence isnt much.

But oh my god, this is the hardest bike to ride ive ridden in a long long time, even harder than Gs old BMW that had no brakes.
You have to prepare for every hill in advance be in the correct gear to go up the hill, you cant be at all lazy when riding it.

Next comes the biggest problem, other drivers, people treat you like a complete and utter cunt while riding this.
I wouldnt say im going any slower than i would be riding normally on my GSXR1000, but people think its ok to pull out, cut you up and get right up your ass.

The 1980s drum brakes arnt exactly responsive either.

But this lead me to respect some of the more mature <--- 125cc riders who have to deal with this on a daily basis.

My experience on a 125cc was strangely pleasant. I can honestly say that I've been treated no different on my 500cc than I was on my 125cc!

However when I had a go on my friend's CBR125 the other week... my rose tinted glasses were shattered. It felt like it wouldn't move. Sad

The H100 is louder than the GSXR1000, but in a less intimidating way.

Ring a ding ding of a 2-stroke and all that.

Nothing makes cars GTFO like the thump of a litre twin.

Ahhh i miss my twins Sad

That's because your R1 zorst broadcasts, "Ph33r the R1 motherfuckers!", to cagers ears on a loud but subliminabubble level Wink

Your H100 is broadcasting, "Wee! I'm paying fuck all for fuel", which has them wanting to kill you out of a sudden rage of insane jealousy.

It's all in the frequencies Razz

i ride a h100 and i don't get tailgated, and only 1 person in 700 miles has cut me up.

get what you say about the hills though, but a kick into 4th is usually enough to see it up even welsh ones.

brakes... i find the rear is more effective, so need to apply both, any time you want to brake.

got pics? Smile

Tis Fun, isn't it!
Perverse delight in getting the most from something that doesn't offer a lot and makes it hard to get, rather than something that offers an excess with ease... it's sort of like eating rice with chop-sticks 'zen'.

Come ride the roads I use. After doing 140 miles today that's brought me up to around 775 under my belt and I've been able to get close enough to two junctions and lip read drivers saying "ah, fuck it!" and pull out. Then meeting them later on at lights they just shrug thier shoulders.

i took a palls 125 for a mot as his insurance had ran out , it was bloody torture Sad
i stalled it a few times & when i wasn't stalling it i had to many revs Very Happy
it's def much easier driving a big bike as you don't really need much throttle just let the clutch out & away you go Very Happy

I've mastered the art of getting up the hill to the A27/Devil's Dyke roundabouts, I have to hit 40 at the bottom or I'm doing 25 by the time I reach the top! Sometimes there's a car doing 30 in front so I have to struggle a bit, 2 lanes though luckily..(further up).

And gentle inclines require a little more power to keep the same speed, wind resistance as well.

But I can only really compare it to a pushbike and it's certainly less effort up those hills!

Post some pics! My new winter steed is also an 81, but has surprisingly good headlights (much better than the 86 that I had written off last year, or my mates 91 SJ2 model).

H100 drums are good once they're set up, unfortunately I haven't found the sweet spot on this bike yet (and i need a new set of shoes for the back). I'm thinking of ditching the indicators and putting an LED tail light in to save a bit of electrickery.

I very nearly bought a H100 once, it was only £200 as the main bearings were rumbling.

Other than that it was a nice bike Cool

Should have bought it and fixed it really but you live and learn.

Mine just cost me £100, taxed and tested till April, just wanted a new chain and brake shoes. Wink

That is a bargain. Thumbs Up

IMO they are a better bike than the CG125, which accelerate like a snail with the brakes on in comparison.

Yes, have had a full license since 2008, can ride whatever I want but I commute for cheapness and like geared 125's for their fuel economy and cheap/easy servicing. My experiences with the CBF have been pretty good considering the reports you see of corrosion and shit build quality - it's approaching 20k miles now. If my finances were better I'd probably be eyeing up one of those NC700's. Thumbs Up

Cool Thumbs Up
Nothing wrong with 125s, cheap and cheerful, i'd like mine more without the L plate on the back Razz
I'll still be on mine a while after I get my license no doubt, as if I wanted something that eats fuel and costs a lot to insure i'd get a car Wink

Really one of the things I hate on most 125's are the small wheels. In the poring rain, I cannot keep that 4 second or so gap from the car in front because people overtake and cut me up. So, whenever I need to brake really hard, I risk losing control, which happened last month!

My CG has very thin wheels and I can feel it slightly slipping across the road which scares the shit out of me....and putting it in 1st gear up a hill Laughing
