I've taken on a new foster dog, her current name is Millie but I need to change this as it's too similar to the names of my resident dogs.

I currently have a: Sam, Stitch, Ben, Holly & Maddi.

Names previously taken and not to be repeated:
Kelly, Kye, Roxie, Charlie, Susie, Tina, Cindy, Chester.

Also the name must be shortish and distinctive, preferably one syllable.

Best suggestion so far is Freya, but i'm not sure this suits her...

Better off keeping something similar sounding to its original name.

Albeit they will respond to any name in a certain tone of voice... it helps to keep it similar.

Dogs don't care what they are called as you know.

My dog has a name I'm sure no other dog is called.
It is 3 letter name so I don't have say stop thinkerbell/long name when she is doing something wrong.
I named her this name so as recall would work any where and not have people in the park calling their dogs that had the same name as my dog.

Um, you say that you prefer monosyllabic names, yet of the fourteen names listed, eleven of them are polysyllabic. I'm struggling a bit with your logic, there.

However, the first photo makes me think she should be called 'Slump'.

Nope, can train any dog to respond to any word or sound, I don't care if she doesn't like it, I have to call it out in public. lol Laughing

The idea is to get away from any names that sound like ones I currently have, so billy, lily, tilie all sound too much like holly or maddi.

I didn't name the previous dogs and when they came to me they actually responded to their names so they stuck. Although Stitch was known as 'bitch' so I renamed her for obv' reasons. Maddi commonly is referred to as 'dog' as she responds to this as she's done alot of work around children who abused her name until it became back ground noise Rolling Eyes bloody kids, undo all your training! Laughing

Ignore Logic, how deep do you want to read into this, just think of some cool names for this new dog.

------------

I had considered Fawn due to her colour and her deer like bounds around the garden (discovered today). I'm told she can clear an 8ft fence without panting.

Moose seems to suit as she constantly makes whinging whiney noises and she's not that pretty for a lady dog... 'Moo dog' was a nickname owned by my previous dog Roxie and it appears i've got another gob shite in the house hold Laughing
