I am having a problem with a CB500V and has failed the MOT because of a broken front pad clip. The tester has tried to find a part and he said that both Honda and Brembo no longer make them. The bike of course can not be ridden untill a part can be found.A new caliper is not practicle. Has any one had the problem or found a way round it please.

Honda part Number: 45108MAK003

5-7 day lead time from David silvers

Google the part number for other sources of them.

According to the Haynes book it is pad plate. Been on Lings website and the part is shown but no part number.

Have you got a picture of it?
I may have one kicking around in my spares box.

I've just looked on the Fowlers fiche and also cmsnl.com and I can't find a part number for you.

I would try contacting a Brembo importer/specialist. I think www.modeperformance.co.uk might be able to help, not sure though. I haven't dealt with a Brembo specialist since GPR in Silverstone stopped dealing with them.

No, I have seen it OK, told the testing station and they say it is not what I need or at least they say so. The part I need is on the picture and does not have a part number and is next to the part number you state. I will have to go back and see what they say again. I do think they might be wrong as the part number you gave me is different to the one they think is right that is
45519MAK003
will have to go and sort it. Thanks for your help any way.

https://www.metalsupermarkets.com/

Have a look and see if there is a branch near you. My local one is pretty good and if you went in there asking for a small piece of thin stainless sheet the size of a credit card they'll probably let you have it for nothing. It would take 5 mins to make that.

The part number they have given you is for one of the small M4 screws that holds the lid onto the front master cylinder.

It's spring steel. Very hard because it's a wearing part and unbendable because it bending could be catastrophic.

You'd need to make it from a small piece of mild steel then heat treat it.

I think you are wrong

Your part is part 6 that is not what the OP is after he is after the part without the part number that clips over the locating end of the pads.

Edit:-
I think he is after the equivalent of part 9 on my TDM rear calliper. Thumbs Up

Wooooah there.

It's the same type of part, doesn't mean it will fit.

It may fit or could be made to fit or could be completely different!

I was working on the assumption that both spring clips would be included under that part number. On other diagrams they are next to one another.

Anyway, thinking laterally, that part is shaped to fit the pads, not the calliper so what other bikes take those pads?

Answer. Lots. In fact, all of these bikes use the same pads:
https://bikes.ebcbrakeshop.co.uk/default.php?search=FA209/2

It wouldn't be unreasonable to assume the clip off any of these would fit, although not a foregone conclusion.

On the Yamaha DT X 125 parts fiche, both spring clips are considered to be one part.

It's not under any load and is just there to take up the slack in the hole in the pad the retaining pin passes through, it's there to stop the pads rattling around and making any noise when you brake. A piece of anything just bent to shape will be fine.

It has obviously failed already and not killed anyone, hence why they're looking for a replacement.

Are we talking about the nit in the middle of this pic, with no number? If we are, take it out and throw it away then the bike will pass mot.

They can't test something that isn't there.

If that guarantees a pass I'm turning up for my next MOT without a vehicle.

I have had a reply from a leading spare supplier with the following message.

Honda have strangely not ever sold that as a separate part - we had trouble even getting the larger one at the rear of the pads a few years ago and Brembo were worse than useless then.

Leave it with me, I will do some digging to see if there is another model using the same clip which can be bought as a spare.

I'd go with Stinkwheels suggestion of the DT125 clip. Thumbs Up

Your MoT place seems strict I'm pretty sure, none of the MoT's I've had on ANY of my bikes over the years would have spotted that.

I'm pretty sure that's one of the parts I tend to deem as "unnecessary" when working on my brakes.
