So, over the past wee while we've been working on a few bikes.

First off, most of you have probably seen them through my CBR streetfighter project.

The CBR is the most obvious one, since that's mine Mr. Green

Started like this
https://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/394624_3838286649411_1695386091_n.jpg

https://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/559249_3844853293573_2020274435_n.jpg

And ended up like this

https://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/223815_4093735795480_1433668205_n.jpg

At that point, i took it to the workshop and did some proper work to it.

https://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/581361_477863438921258_181855879_n.jpg

https://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/3686_477864502254485_636457286_n.jpg

https://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/222533_4303583361538_446294300_n.jpg

https://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/297221_4303583921552_851549598_n.jpg

https://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/389533_4303584561568_220524150_n.jpg

https://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/553806_4303586201609_635602220_n.jpg

https://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/561789_4303586881626_969886705_n.jpg

Quite a good job, and was a lot of fun.

Now that other bike you see?

Started off like this.

https://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/298575_469939766380292_913568071_n.jpg

So we went to work.
First job was getting the tail chopped down...

That was a case of chopping it all down and welding a bracket on for the light and plate.
https://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/375907_472272959480306_348252212_n.jpg

The next step was getting the tank sorted out. Nice chrome effect!
https://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/526017_474390479268554_366292612_n.jpg
https://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/254788_474390382601897_1973690845_n.jpg

Cleaned up the wheels, and sorted the brake caliper, painting it a nice red...
https://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/156415_474175402623395_1171549179_n.jpg

So it ended as it was in the pics above with the CBR.

Next up was the new paint job!

https://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/644073_4402453913240_313835391_n.jpg
https://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/550173_4402447673084_1688504173_n.jpg
https://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/486255_4402448313100_1883488960_n.jpg
https://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/550723_4402451793187_572094815_n.jpg
https://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/553894_4402452913215_825910533_n.jpg
Some of the bits and pieces do need to be sorted out, cleaned up and sprayed, but that's a job for another time. It's not to be perfect but if we do decide to sort it, it'll clean it up a fair bit.

So next up, we've got a couple other projects. There's my mate's R6 which we've split down for powdercoating, and that'll be put back together, we've got my DT125 to have a play with, but the 2 main ones are the best ones.

Any guesses to what this is?
https://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/532183_4402733320225_848045694_n.jpg
https://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/540115_486449924729276_1940847448_n.jpg

That bike has won more than a few 'best rat' titles at different rallies.

I'm buying half of it, so it'll be in shared ownership between us. It's some bike. The clutch needs done, and i'm ripping out the wiring for it and re-doing it all, as it's a right mess.

And the second one...

https://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/251217_474580729249529_552701207_n.jpg

That's a GSXR750 frame, and a VFR400 (as far as i can tell) swingarm. We're getting the swingarm to fit into the frame along with the shock which is proving to be quite fun, and we're also getting our hands on a bandit front end at the end of the month to use for it.
It's a shame we can't find a bigger engine to put in it than the one we've got, which is a GSX600f engine (the one out of my old one!)

If funds allow, i might have a look for a bigger engine to put in, but we'll see what happens as we're working with what we've got.

So that's where i am now. Not too much happening at the moment with work and the fact it's dark earlier now.

I suppose i can just update stuff in here when we do something cool Thumbs Up

don't like what you've done with the mudguard on yours, liked it better before, liking the look of the cafe'd vx800, as for the rat bike? looks like a honda bros 650 to me.

Cool bikes dude, out of interest are you using a petrol resistant lacquer for the tanks, and if you are, what brand?

Very Happy

The rat bike is a bros Thumbs Up

The mudguard wasn't actually me, but it's grown on me. i think it looks better than the stock one... it was a bit... square?

And the tail is getting replaced eventually. just need the money for an R6 back end. I'm also contemplating using that VFR400 swingarm as i've found a bandit front end and swingarm for the project Mr. Green

The lacquer we use is Hycote. it's alright, but go through a tin per tank.

Next on my list is a bandit 1200, which isn't going to be a ratfighter or anything like that, it's going to be properly modified with a good paint scheme, i just need to decide what i want for it.
The CBR wil get treated to a good going over since it's sitting like this just now.

https://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/405010_4410169066114_647000300_n.jpg
Front wheel needed replaced anyway

https://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/189727_4410168306095_2071750225_n.jpg
Really worried about that part of the frame. it'll be fine, but i'll get it checked anyway.

https://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/189639_4410166226043_201760275_n.jpg
Paint all scratched up by my boot

https://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/483042_4410165826033_1456792467_n.jpg
Lever scraped, bar end scraped, m/c scraped....

but...

I might not even bother fixing it. i think it adds character Wink

As I said in your other thread, that VX800 looks really good. I'd probably have gone more for powder coating stuff if I was doing it but it looks really good for a budget build, I don't know what draws me to it so much!

FINALLY got round to working on the fighter. Went out and got some bits and pieces from glasgow off a bandit 12. They slot straight in (sort of) so it's going well.

Pics of the work so far. Got a gixxer tank for it and we made up a tail to sit on.

https://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/12241_4495794646700_1824781232_n.jpg

https://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/74217_4495799966833_1090371858_n.jpg
You can see the R6 engine on the bench in this one - that's now through the back on the shelves waiting to be put in the frame once it's back from the powdercoaters.
https://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/12171_4495799126812_1818612212_n.jpg

Here's the engine we're using for it. Might need to split it and sort out some tapping that's coming from the top end, but nothing serious. good old oil boiler reliability.
https://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/77033_4495796846755_1966715136_n.jpg
Yes, those scrapes are from when the bike ended up in a field.
https://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/282126_461879680519634_134205780_n.jpg

Things to buy/modify:
Wiring loom needs re-done. that'll be done after the engine is sorted and in.
Tail needs re-shaped to fit the frame and tank. The wiring will sit inside it.
Various bolts are required. We'll need to measure up and buy/make some.
The stem on the yokes doesn't fit. Need to buy a gixxer 750 bottom yoke and either take the stem out and get it pressed into the bandit ones, or just use that.
Bearings, bushes and spacers etc
need some bits and pieces for the tank - tap and cap.

That's mainly it for that bike to be honest. everything else seems to be going well. Saying that, somethings bound to stop us in our tracks.

The cafe racer is coming along nicely. One of the fork seals blew and the oil is pissing all over the workshop, so that'll have the front end stripped off. We're tempted to buy another set of forks to upgrade the brakes, and more importantly, get a 17" front wheel for it. the 18 on it just now makes it handle horribly. Feels like an old bike so when you're booting it round some corners, you feel like it's going to tip. It's a heavy bike as it is so that's not helping.

We've been doing some fiberglassing trying to get a seat hump.... Early tests were.... well they didn't really work.

We had a good condition zephyr tank that would've been worth a fair bit of money, but Thomas decided that it'd do as a template for the seat hump. Lesson learned. Petrol fumes+angle grinder+metal tank = explosion.

https://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/483494_490115147696087_1197321447_n.jpg

Cut that out then tried to use expanding foam. Looked good to start with so we went away out to lucas for some ice cream (awesome ice cream - butterscotch sauce with nutella and mint ice cream Drooling ).

Came back to this.

https://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/29583_4459688984081_1585574641_n.jpg

PLAN C!

Initial results were decent.

https://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/61939_492005174173751_1814664115_n.jpg
Unfortunately i have no more pictures of it. It's still to be strengthened and then sanded smooth, then it'll get painted up in the same scheme as the bike. It's being designed so that it can be removed to use the pillion seat so will never be perfect, but it does look good on the bike.

Going back round tomorrow if i get time to see if i can get the valves looked at on the engine, but if not, then i'll be bashing on with the wiring from the NTV rat, which also has blown fork seals. That's a completely new fork job though as they've deteriorated in the time it's been laying. That bike won best rat awards at a LOT of rallies, and we're aiming to get it back to it's former glory. here's some pics of it before...

https://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/582621_381747651866171_1752852202_n.jpg
https://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/557210_373213906052879_1718084476_n.jpg

so I'll be updating as we go along!

Cheers

That's the VX800 away to it's new owner!

Sad
