Hi all.
I've bought a 1989 cbr 600 for £200 as it needs some love to get it working. I its complete and the paint works not to bad, the plastics need some work in places but i guess that to be expected.
This is how it looked when i bought it

Ive just taken the plastics off as i planed to get it running today only i've noticed a small problem with the exhaust, its kind of not connected lol

I managed to find a standard exhaust on the bay so i ordered that and carried on with other jobs for now
I wanted to make sure the brakes were not seized so i removed them from the bike to take a look but I must say the brakes are in surprisingly good shape considering its been left parked outside for so long as were the carbs, it must have had them drained before it was parked up.

but i came across a small problem, the plastic T pieces that go in between the carbs, were broken, i managed to find 1 new one but honda how stopped making the part and i cant get hold of another one so i had to improvise, i managed to trim the T pieces down a little, put on some fuel pipe and bolt them back together, seams to be working a treat

I Wanted to paint the wheels up as they looked quite rough, I have a rear paddock stand so taking the rear wheel off was easy. Then i thought "how am i going to get the front off, then i had an idea, i have an engine crane lol.
I used it to hold the bike while i got the wheel off then i lowered the front onto a block of wood as i did not want it hanging on the crane

So that's where i'm up to at the minute with this one, i have a week off form today so i hope to get a lot more done to it. I was hoping to get it ready for the mot but all depends how much time i spend on it |

Cheers guys, the bike had been standing outside for the last 4 years, i guess that's why the exhaust was so bad, although the rest seams to have handled it well, no major rust or any thing |

Daft as it sounds the exhaust is probably the reason the rest of the bike is in good nick, same theory as a boat having a Zinc anode which corrodes away at a lightning pace leaving the rest of it virtually rust free.
Nice to see a bike like this being restored rather than sold in bits or for scrap |
