Keep doing practice tests online until you pass every time. Its a great learning experience and you do tend to learn a lot more.

And read the Highway code.

Just read "the official DSA theory test for motorcycles". Everything is in there. To be honest other than the technical questions, the rest is common sense. Thumbs Up

Thing is I failed the first time doing my theory last month. I didn't do any swotting as I had aced the online tests a couple of times. i've got the DSA theory test book but its the 2011 version. i'll be really hacked off if I fail again as its another thirty quid down the drain and anothe month delay booking the Mod1.

Hit the books, as you have been doing but also spot the signs etc. when you are out and about.

Pick a busy junction and watch what others are doing and ask yourself what you would do there.

Just get one of those practise DVDs and do the tests over and over and over... and over again until you are scoring way above passing marks. Then there's nothing to worry about come test day.

Not saying you need an iPhone to pass your theory test but if you have one there's an app you can download for free or might be 69p or something.

I used that whenever I had some spare time, on the bog etc and passed straight off.

I used the uk motorcycle theory and hazard perception android phone apps, less than a fiver for the two of them and they are seriously useful bits of kit, just keep running through them and read your highway code, problem solved.

I read the highway code from front to back twice.

I downloaded the official DSA theory test multi-choice app for my phone and did a mock test whenever i had a spare half an hour.

i also borrowed a hazard perception test dvd and sat and did about 10-12 of these. it gives you a rough idea of how to click and what they are looking for.

if you havent got the highway code book, send me your address in a PM and i'll post mine to you. dont need it anymore as i passed first time Thumbs Up

Just a side note to that.
I passed my Theory Test two years before starting to learn how to ride bikes... And I passed the bike Theory Test this year first time also. But even so, I was surprised how many details of the HC came up during my bike lessons that I didn't remember or even didn't know!

So I think a copy of the HC at home is always handy. Wink

Two mod 2 students I know of failed on mis-reading a green traffic light. The light was green (circular, not filter) with a right-filter bolted on the side. Clearly this means green for ALL traffic but they both hesitated as the filter was not lit. One then crossed after the main light went red the other just sat there and held-up traffic on a green light.

HC never goes away and is not just for the theory test. Rolling Eyes

Thanks folks I just passed. The app was really worth it. I think if I had pulled my finger out and got an app to practice with earlier I would have got 100%

Going to go check my bank balance and hopefully book my Mod 1 tonight, might even have a big fatty steak for din dins Smile

What i've learned is I need to be a little less relaxed about things and prepare more. So as soon as I get a date for Mod1 I'm going to practically live at Sainsburys car park putting in practice.

Up to date copy of the DSA book
80-page ready-ruled A4 or A5 notepad
Pen

Read through it, do the practice tests in it without cheating, check your answers, re-read the parts you failed on. When you get to the end, tear out and bin the old pages *FROM THE NOTEPAD! and do over. It may also help to have someone read the questions to you the second time, in a randomised order (or at least with the options randomised) and you writing out the answer/short form of the question longhand as you go, so you're not just memorising that "the answer to section 3, question 15, is "B".

If you're still not scoring passing grades by the second run through, consider investing in or borrowing one of the electronic guides.

The online practice tests are a good place to start, but they have fixed question sets and can be a little out of date. Use them more as a guide to how the test is presented so you can familiarise with actually doing the test on-screen instead of on paper.

It's not really that hard in the end, it's all multiple choice, a lot of it is fairly common sense or obvious when you think about it, especially if you already have any on-road experience (or just keep your eyes, ears and brain open when riding along as a passenger in a car/bus/van/on a pillion seat). There are a few gotchas that can catch almost anyone out, but that's why you get the book and do the practice, to identify them and get the correct info lodged in your mind.

Done right you'll end up as a tiresome encyclopaedia of government-approved "correct" on-road behaviour for at least a month after passing Very Happy

The two things which piss me off are, when someone flashes their lights, this is universally used by drivers to mean god knows what, but the highway code is convinced it is "to alert others to their prescence". The second one is someone on the road at night wearing reflective clothing and carrying a light is apparently on an organised walk! Goood fukin grief!!!

There's an app on the android market place for £1.99.
Has all the 2012 questions, has them all organized into categories. You can practice individual categories or sit mock tests. Charts your progress and tells you which sections you need to work on. Has explanations to the answers, so you actually learn stuff too.
I've been using it on my way to and from work for the last few days and I'm now getting 100% on the mocks most of the time.
It's called 'Theory Test for Motorcyclists' by Vialsoft.
Theres a free version but it only has 3 of the 14 categories/sections.
Really well made app, in my opinion.
I don't normally endorse commercial products but i really can't recommend this app highly enough.
