Hi there I am 15 years old and I own a Kawasaki gpz 305 1991 which I believe is a b8... I am trying to make it into a cafe racer then sell it on and then go onto another project or restoration... I have the colours I am doing it... I have the fuel tank from a Honda cb400n superdream which I am currently priming and painting... I am looking for a seat unit (upholstered), some oval number plates to put as side panels, a headlight, maybe a bikini fairing similar to that of a Honda cx500 and possibly a cheap exhaust as I have a megaphone exhaust which is chrome but has slight surface rust so if I cannot afford a new exhaust maybe painting it in heat resistant satin black... Anyone who has some tips, links or ideas please do give your input and I will be grateful for any help Smile

No, what people/we dislike is
15 year old chavs who can't spell or punctuate - He can spell and punctuate properly, you can't though.

15 year old chavs who flounce and get upset because their scooter is crap- He hasn't

That said, he has combined two threads in one wrong section, a show and tell thread which could be quite interesting, mixed with a wanted thread and post it in General bike chat.

I agree I should have posted it in only one topic but i was unsure as to which one i should put it in. I am new to BCF but will keep that in mind. I have rubbed down the new tank today and later on will fill in a few small dents then will prime, paint and lacquer. That is this bloody weather picks up a bit!

So... we're discussing it here? Wink

OK then, copy-pasta:

Hmm, I was just out MOT-prepping my GPz305 today, and I got to looking at it and pondering the same idea. Thinking

I'm not sure why you're changing the tank for a superdream one. They both shaped to merge into side panels, I'd have thought you'd be wanting one with a flat bottom edge.

"Slight surface rust" = wire wool and Autosol. If that doesn't sort it, then it wasn't slight surface rust. Wink

If you're selling for profit, minimise your costs. A fairing is cost, and it won't necessarily get you any more money. Probably less if it's in any way messy.

Seat unit, DIY it. Modify the stock one, or make one from scratch. A fibreglass base shouldn't be too tricky, it'll be in the prep.

Oval plates, well, seen any abandoned road signs nearby? Whistle

Light, any round generic unit from eBay should be fine, then fettle up brackets to suit. I managed to (just) stuff all the electrics on my 125 into a mere 4.5" unit, but I'd suggest going a bit bigger.

Instruments, the only one you need is a speedo.

Don't get your hopes up about value. These were never popular bikes, there's a small and shrinking market for that capacity, and by modifying it, you're likely decreasing that market further (because insurance becomes a hassle).

I'm tempted to cafe mine, but only if I were keeping it. I'll likely use it over the winter as stock, throw it on Gumtree a few times, and if it doesn't shift, do something fun with it in the spring (they are fun bikes, until the inevitable engine assplosion). But I expect I'd spend more than I could ever get back from it.

Good on you for trying it though, please do document it as you go, I'd be interested to see how you get on. What colours are you going for?
