This kind of thing impresses me so much it's hard to find words.

Built during WW2 by a guy who made almost every damn part right down to making the patterns for the engine castings then the castings themselves.

1943 supercharged 4-cylinder 2-stroke by Dennis Jones.

Enjoy

Yes, but can a Lidl smoke machine do this:

Quote:
One morning being a bit late he's giving this bike some big licks along London Road, gets to work and it's deserted, everyone is in the air raid shelters and Dennis hasn't heard the air raid warning whilst on his bike.
So Dennis joins his fellow workers and after a period the all clear goes but no raid and no aircraft are sighted.

It then dawns on Dennis that this flat 4 two stroke sounds just like a JU88 and the wardens after hearing Dennis doing the ton down London Road thought they were in for another pasting and lit the siren up

I bet that was a really cool bike in 1943 and back then a fella in a shed with a few tools could buid a bike from scratch.

Try making something to rival zx10, r1 or fireblade in your shed, not a hope!

Them was the days Thumbs Up

I disagree, all you have to do is take the best parts from each bike, amalgamate them in an orderly fashion then you have a new fastest bike in the world.

Not as impressive but possibly approaching as interesting. How about someone riding about on a 1896 Hildebrand and Wolfmüller motorcycle.

Mind you, when it comes to looney-tunes early 2-strokes, it's hard to beat a Scott Squirrel. I've been trying to find a video I once saw of Bill Swallow absolutely ragging the arse off one round Cadwell, pulling wheelies along the straights and generally giving it some full-bore-roar. Seems to have dropped off the internet.

Yes but the point is that guy built the bike from scratch making all the parts himself. Of course any old spanner waver can put stuff together.

What I was trying to say was, try building a bike to rival a modern superbike by making the bits yourself in a shed..Of that there is not much hope.

Thumbs Up

Fozzy, I was joking. I fully appreciate the bike, it's a blessing and a curse that tech is so far advanced, that it's near impossible to compete without a huge budget. Similarly, fixing new bikes involves computers not spanners these days.

As a sidenote, try getting a spanner waver to put four bikes into an amalgamation of superiority.. bikes aren't lego, it doesn't work.
