Would you pay 900 quid for a gpz500?

Details:

The current mileage is 22,106 miles. This will not be changing as I am no longer using the bike.

The bike has no major rust spots, and runs exactly as it should. It has had a very low speed drop, which has marked the fairing, which you can see pictured. Otherwise, the bike looks exactly as you'd expect or a bike of this age which has been used in all weathers.

The bike would make an excellent commuter, or a first bike for someone.

Extra details;

Nexus stainless steel 2 in 1 exhaust Extended screen Oxford heated grips Power socket Improved mirrors - taken from Z6R, which provide a much better view of the road behind Brand new battery - gel type K&N air filter New rear brake pad Oil & filter change in September Full service in Feb 2012 Restrictor washers - easy to have fitted, and also comes with the certificate for these. Makes the bike 33bhp. Haynes manual Large top box and bracket also available

Just went through an MOT recently with no issues or advisories

MOT expires 25th September 2013

Those sold on Fleabay have gone between £250 and £670 over the last month, with one exception of £999. So, seems a little dear to me. Probably sell for that in the Spring, but not now.

Yeah,

900 is the buy it now price. Is currently at about 550.
There was one that is being sold near me for under 500,but it is in tatters.

I thought it might be better to pay more for something well looked after, etc...

If you really want it, and it's worth it to you, then try offering him £700 as a BIN.

You're basically buying what I bought for 300 quid less. Go for it. Mine had year MOT though and everything about it had been done up, it was in extremely good condition. Sounds like yours is in at least as good condition also, and if it has better wing mirrors then that's worth something in itself! The stock mirrors are shite. Coming with extras like a top box and haynes manual mean you're getting a great deal IMO!

Hmm. It's got all the right boxes ticked, but even so, it's a pretty basic 500.

I wouldn't want to pay quite that much for it, even if it's one of the later ones. Anything that you can point at tut at? Tyres, chain, sprockets, no service history?

That said, I'm still loving mine. My eye has been roving, but I went out for a ride today, motorways, twisties, bimbling through villages, and I really can't fault it.

Probably worth a low offer of actual cash in hand on the spot: the worst he can say is no.

It would very much depend what model it is.

Also this:

Is nice and honest BUT it also translates as "This bike is a bit ratty.". I'd want to go and see it before making a decision.

I'd be having a close look at the corners of the top fairing, the head of the sidestand pivot bolt, pillion pegs and the water pump cover for evidence of more severe crash damage. These bikes crash well and plastics damage can be relatively light even after a big off. In all probability the mirrors were replaced to give a better view (the standard ones give a great view of your elbow) but the originals might also have been broken off. The points I mentioned above are the "touchdown" areas.

Well, get in touch with the seller, odds are that the "winner" is a drunk, fantasist, mong or all 3.

He'll be looking to take £750 in cash from someone.

I paid £500 cash for my '95 model in August if that's any help?

The chap lived locally so that helped in that I went to look at it without having to spend ages getting there to find a lump of doo doo.
I also know it helped that I got on well with the blokes wife, but I thought £500 was a fair price, and it's a cracking bike to ride at speed and round bends etc etc.

(Not that I've ridden it as I've not passed my test yet Shifty)

Well I don't know where these people live but when I was looking the cheapest GPZ I saw on the internets was £780ish and it had no mirrors, and almost all of the others I saw for sale on various websites were around the 1000 mark...fluctuations in demand maybe or my mistake for living in an apparently affluent corner of the UK?

I paid £650 for my 2000 plate four weeks ago. Mines is needing some work though, however the 500 - 650 market locally (Glasgow) has been sitting really rather high lately. I got the seller down from £800.

Go and see it, provided its pretty mechanically sound it should be good. Use one or two things as a haggling point, but never the things thats mentioned in the ad. I found the past few times buying simply the words "whats your best price" can help.

Good luck man, I'm loving mine!

Grantham - East Midlands. As I said, I think the bloke took a shine to me coz i got on so well with his wife, and it probably helped that we ran out of petrol on the test run he took me on with me as pillion.
I discovered that he had a sense of humour on the way back with him pushing the bike, and me gloating to myself coz I knew the price would have dropped somewhat!!!!!

I asked him what he wanted for it, and told him I had cash, and we did the deal at £500. I reckon he'd have easily got £650+ for it, as the auction on Ebay sat at £430 with 5 days to go, but he seemed happy, and I was ecstatic! Of course Ebay fees n Paypal etc would have cost him a few quid too, which is why cash is king.

Excessive play in the unitrak bushes is a good haggling point with any monoshock kawasaki of that era.
