Is there any ruling that says an official certificate must be got for the restriction, or will a dynograph printout do the same job?

A certificate would cost around £200, while a throttle stop and printout costs way under half.

Are there any dis-advantages with the dyno printout?

Hi

There is no legal requirement for any kind of certificate at all. However the police do have the power to check the bike is restricted / under 33hp, probably by a dyno test. The certificate will probably stop this hassle (unless you get caught at 130mph).

All the best

All the police can do is Dyno your bike, then make you get it restricted with proof.
Doubt it's gonna happen too much TBH.

I'm buying a bike which I'm told is 33bhp, but the certificate is lost. Does that mean I won't need to pay for a mechanic to check it over and pay for a new certificate from FI? If the cops need proof I can just get a dyno printout?

Try and find out who provided the restriction kit or which dealer fitted it. If it is someone like F1 International, they provide three certificates, 1 for the rider, 1 for the supplying dealer to retain and 1 is sent back to F1. The details are then entered onto a central database so that it should be fairly easy for either the dealer or the supplying manufacturer to send out a duplicate certificate.

Demonic69, it is not so much of making you get the bike restricted after having put it on the Dyno, it is more a case of prosecuting for riding without a licence and insurance!

Well that would be the case TC if the law surrounding the restriction was solid.
As it stands at the minute there is now law regarding proof, only that your bike should be restricted.
You don't normally get prosecuted for having a bald tyre, a light out, or a blowing exhaust do you?

Surely a producer and being told to get it fixed is better?

No point, I've probably been called it before.
The problem with the Police today (not all I'll give you that) is that they become real Jobsworths. Instead of trying to concentrate on making the roads safe, some seem to find it more interesting to prosecute everyone they can.
No wonder they're hated by a good percentage of the populace.

As I say, this is not all Police, just an increasing amount of them Very Happy

Police and traffic Wardens alike.
Giving someone points for having a slightly balding tyre simply because they can't measure 3mm correctly with their 30cm ruler is a bit arse really.

I got a Producer after being pulled for having no rear lights! (The one which was still working, died on the way home that night!)

Also had a bald fron tyre. He gave me some slip to get stamped by an MOT tester when the work was done and send off to some police bloke.

Okay guys. I was aiming for a restricted licence. Are we saying, as long as I'm careful, there's no reason why I could buy a bike, (say 500cc), and NOT have it restricted.

Is it down to luck of being caught ???

I thought it was a requirement to have a restricted certificate ???

Just Like I have a 900cc bike, Zim had/had a litre bike, as do Korn and Dru. We've not had a problem between us and we all have 120-odd BHP

Most likely take your word and then if they find it isn't restricted when you come to claim they will screw you over.

Insurance companies will happily take your money when they are looking for victums but will do everything they can to get out of paying you if you make a claim. IMO insurance is a legal requirement, shouldn't the government attempt to make insurance fairer and thefore encourage people to get insurance Question

I couldn't agree more. The idea of a policed state is to make the country safer for its' citizens not to alienate and prosecute as many as possible in order to increase revenue. The actions of most police sadly causes your average law abiding citizen to loose respect for both the law and its' enforcers.
