Just spoke to garage, my insurance assessor went down to inspect the damage. Mechanic gave me the following breakdown:

- Front end smashed in

- Front forks damages

- Front wheel damaged

- Rear end damage (plus chassis damage)

- Foot pedals ripped off

- Brake lever ripped off

In total, parts estimate is £1,100, VAT is an additional £400 roughly. Labour will be £500-600. The bike market value is approx. £2000, so it will be written off i'm sure as its not economical to repair. Just a shame they dont let me keep the bike! Will get confirmation by end of the day as to whether its a write off or not. Only prob now is im saying its the 3rd party's fault, she's saying its mine!

Main question I got is if and when I get paid out, they will give me market value of the bike, is that at around £1800? Now do I accept the first offer they make me or do I get no choice?

They should offer you the cost to replace it (i.e. the market value for a similar bike of the same age), less any excesses on your policy.

You don't have to accept the first offer they make but they will ask you to prove your claim for more money. Send in ads of similar bikes and prices to yours, but they can also say that that is all they are going to offer though.

You should be able to buy the bike back as salvage for a nominal cost, mine cost me £200. You should make it known that you are interested in doing this though otherwise they will make their own arrangements.

I take it you are fully comp then? If not third party claims can drag on and on and . . . .

Good luck.

Might be worth placing a few ads in biketrader, if you know what I mean? Wink

Hi

Tell the insurance company that you want the remains. They are yours anyway until you agree for the insurance company to have them.

Generally they write a vehicle off when the damage is 2/3 the value.

All the best

Keith

Insurance company just confirmed the bike is 'beyond economical repair', they asked how much I think its worth. I said I was due to sell it for £2500, they offered me £2200 so can't complain! This may be less £250 excess if they think its my fault or if it goes 50/50.

That's good, at least you won't have the third party wait. The down side is that they will relieve you of some of your NCB until the claim is settled. You will get it back if they find in your favour though.

how long you think i'll have to wait for the cheque? Excess is £250 so I imagine they'll send me cheque for £1950 and if it works out in my favour they'll send my excess back?

Fully comp claims are usually fairly speedy compared to third party. I had my bike assessed in the morning, they phoned the offer through in the afternoon and were ready to proceed within a couple of days. It depends on your insurance company really though, I was insured through H&R with NIG Skandia.

Hopefully, fingers crossed. Would like to ideally get a new bike sorted out in time to go back to work. I'm with Hastings Direct and I've been more than impressed with their service Thumbs Up

This is weird. 6 days since the accident, i've got a sharp pain the right side of my chest. If im sitting and i get up, it hurts like a bugger. Also hurts if I take a deep breath. Feels like an injured lung or something, but is it unheard of for an injury to come out a week later?

No. Go and get that check out as soon as possible mate, it could be something serious and you've got nothing to lose by having it looked at properly.

Well it's like when a piece of string gets freyed. It'll hold for a while but then it gives out.........crap analogy but something along those lines might have happened to you?

If the doctor gives you the brush off seek a second opinion, better safe then sorry and you'll be happy you did if it's something serious.

So I won't see you on Monday then......! Seriously, get it checked out. I reckon it's a torn muscle, done by hubbling around on that crutch. Bloody painful, and you think it's a lot worse like a cracked rib!
