Square Tires ?

I’ve heard the term squared off when referring to tires and how this can muck up the feel and cornering ability of a bike. Should a tire be rounded all the way to the middle or does it have a flat patch normally? I’ve not long had my bike and the back tire seams squarer than I imagine it should be. It has a flat area about 1.5inces wide down the centre of the tire. Is this normal or should I replace it?

There should be no flat patch, mate. Get a new one when your handling starts to play up. The differance is huge...
