Got the MOT booked for the GPX on Saturday.

I'm currently building the bike back up and tonight I noticed that the side stand switch does not prevent the bike from starting when the stand is down.

I'm not sure if this would fail the MOT.

If it would, can I just temporarily remove the sidestand (leaving the switch etc in place) and refit after the MOT once I have fixed it?

Shouldn't be a MOT failure.
My GT550 has a stand that doesn't connect with the switch and it's never been flagged as an issue.

Also, most (if not all) side stand switches don't stop you starting the engine, they cut it out if you put it in gear with the side stand down.

In my experience most Kawasaki ones don't even do that! Smile

You can legally bypass them if the bike starts to cut out as soon as you let out the clutch when in gear (ie switch stuck in the stand down position). You won't fail a MOT for it - my old GPZ500 went through at least 2 MOT's with a disabled sidestand switch.

My bike starts with the stand down, but not if its in gear. Are you sure its even faulty? Try putting it in gear and see if it cuts out Wink

From me our kawasakis only do it when you release the clutch.

Whereas most fail so they perm disabled kawasakis fail the other way though and allow you to ride with the sidestand down afaik.

All mine ever did was cut the engine out when it felt like it.. also a Kawasaki, gotta love them Smile

I removed the switch completely and replaced it with a small piece of wire to maintain the circuit three MOTs ago, just have to be careful on some bikes the switch is part of the ground circuit for the starter / ignition systems.
