Hello
Just got myself a 900 diversion, unfortunately it has no identity as all numbers have been removed, this is for a genuine reason, its not stolen. Do I re-frame it or stick it on a Q plate? Or has anyone got a frame for sale?
What does the bcf think?
Cheers

To hide it's genuine identity, genuinely.

As I understand, it was involved in a fatal rta. The recovery co where going to break it but it has stood for 6 years. Seller will be providing full receipt, have visited premises and met seller, and all details of sale will be kept, so I am as satisfied as I can be that the story is genuine.

Why would this legitimise the removal of serial numbers, though?

Jolly good, you are being lied to.

If it was involved in a fatal and the insurance company or Police (more likely) wanted it scrapped, then failure to do so constitutes fraud and the bike will never be allowed back on the road. Theres a higher chance that the Police removed the identifying marks specifically so it couldn't be returned to the road, this is often done in the case of bikes seized by Trident that have been used in drive bys as the bike returning to the road would present a clear danger to the rider of being misidentified and shot. These bikes are passed to breakers to dispose of with the clear instruction they are not to be sold or ever returned to the road.

Go back to the breakers and ask why the frame number was removed and at who's behest it was removed.

Recovery man made a promise to wife of deseased that the bike would not go back on the road, I suppose it is his way of sticking to that promise by removing numbers. The numbers have been recently removed but the bike has clearly been standing for a long time. I am not worried about its history, as long as it is not stolen. If the recovery people had it with the permission of the wife than that is good enough for me. As far as I am aware, damage to bike was not claimed for on insurance, so it was not recorded as a write off

I smell a stolen vehicle. You couldn't pay me to take it off you.

Sorry but that is how I see it. Was going to tell you to run away but it seems it's too late. Sad

That's quite inventive bullshit.

Involve a third party, then make sure that you won't get too interested in getting corroboration, by relying on the fact that 99.9% of people wouldn't be so insensitive as to ask to speak to the grieving widow.

Also, well done on finding the only known example of a scrap dealer with a conscience; you should have him stuffed and mounted for posterity.

Anyway, good luck with getting it registered, even on a Q, if there's any evidence that the VIN has been tampered with.
