Booked my test for next tuesday and the bikes decided no to.start, got rac out and its now at a garage with a suspected blown head gasket or the piston ring has gone.

Panicking abit now as it might not be ready in time for my test and a friend with the same type of bike isn't replying to my plea to borrow his bike. I was wondering if it was worth hiring a school bike? I'd have to get used to the handlingand braking all.ovrr again and it costs 70 quid for a days hire. There's also the possibility that they'll only lend the bike out if I do a few hours training to make sure i wont wreck it.

Should i bite the bullet and cancel the test and lose my 15 quid or should i do the bike hire option? If i cancel and wait till my bikes ready, i run the risk of not getting another mod 1 this year or it being ruined by crap weather...

I've trotted this story out a couple of times but basically I didn't take either of my tests on the bike I set out to the test centre on for various reasons.

I broke down on the way to Silverstone for my Mod 1, in the pissing rain, sent my gf ahead on her bike and hitched to the circuit. Took the test on her bike and passed. It was the first time I'd ever ridden it.

Got a puncture on the way to Oxford for my Mod 2. Couldn't pull the same trick as our Mod 2 tests were on at the same time so I phoned Lightning training school, near the stadium, and asked if I could borrow a bike for the test. Got down there, ran in, they kicked a lad doing his CBT off an old CG and I went on to pass on it. It was also my first time on the bike.

Edited to add... They didn't charge me a penny. Thumbs Up

I think the nerves which are common to taking a test were outweighed by the relief of getting there at all, which helped.

TL;DR

I took both my tests on bikes I'd never sat on before and passed. Don't sweat it.

Test time is at 10:25 so if I hired one, hopefully I would get a good hour or 2 to practice Laughing

I already know what to expect on the mod 1 which should make things easier, it's mainly the swerve I am bothered about as on the bike I'm used to I went way to fast into it and ended up locking up the rear. I know the school and know they would lend me a YBR which I know will actually make my slow speed manoeuvres easier due to the geometry.

Thank you for the replies anyway, the only thing that will affect it now is cost as I'm an almost broke student Laughing

Is that the same as an almost Flush student?

Good luck and good luck
