Hi

I am looking at buzing the ER6F. I test rode the ER6N today and was a nice bike. I have been unable to find a ER6F to test ride at the moment.

I found the ER6N mirror not the best, but saw the ER6F mirrors are wider apart. Does anyone have experience with the 2012 model.

I noticed on the website that they sold extensions for previous models but not the 2012. Therefore with the wider handle bars I was thinking maybe its been resolved?

Any feedback would be welcomed.

Thanks

ER6 Mirrors are well known to be bad for visability, kawasaki do mirror extenders for about £40, I just got used to them and tucking my elbows in to see directly behind. They dont look much different to me on the 2012 model but only a sit on and see will tell realy.

ER6f mirrors are one of the recommended upgrades to the totally useless stock mirrors on the GPZ500. But they're only a little bigger, I'm not surprised that they give a great view of your elbows.

Sack it off, spring for some bar end mirrors, see what's actually behind you.

So today i made another test ride on an ER6N. Very difficult to find an F available to test ride here. I can say actually the mirrors were fine. I must have set them up incorrectly before.

However I am also not tall (5'8") and arms of normal size, so there is let of me to obsure the view.

No vibrations either on this version in my opinion. Good news....

I've got the 2012 er6n - I find rear view fine and I'm a big fat b*stard.

Vibration is great compared to the older version I did my mod2 on. I was looking at the gladius because that was so much smoother (I did my mod1 on one).

I tried the new er6 and it was just as smooth and just that little bit bigger that suited me.

I have the F the now. Dont find the mirrors too bad when set up properly but do occasionaly have to move my body position to get a look. Also the vibrate a lot!!!

Forgot to change them before putting a pillion on last week and had to stop. Wont make that mistake again!

Congrats on the new bike.
I also bought a 2009 ER-6N. Picking it up some time next week, when my license comes through in the post.

I test rode it yesterday, and didn't see any problem with the mirrors, I could see fine behind me on both sides.

Are you buying from a dealer?

Yes, funnily enough from a Triumph dealer.

Yep.
He did ask for my license, told him obviously the examiner sent if off and still with DVLA, showed him my pass certificate, and he accepted it. All he really needed was my name and driver license number, both of which are on the pass cert. anyway. He let me have the bike for half an hour, but as the tank was nearly empty I only took 10 mins - more than enough. Common sense prevailed Very Happy

Had to pay a hefty insurance excess of course, which was then going to be refunded if I didn't crash the bike - later, we agreed to convert that into the deposit for the bike instead of having it refunded.

Well done that man!
All the dealers I've spoken to about test rides around my way wouldn't even entertain the idea of giving me a test ride on my Mod 2, some bullshit about not being insured for bikers with a full licence less than a year.
My licence is back now and although I haven't had the big insurance payment option yet, when I do I'll more than likely be buying from whoever does it.

In danger of getting off topic... I would not buy a bike unless I'd test ridden it, even if only within the dealer's car park. It's not just about whether it works or not, it's about how it feels for me, esp. when riding slowly in town, making sharp turns, start/stop, etc.

I'd test ridden a CB600F that same morning at another dealer, who only let me have it for a minute round his very tight car park. Fair enough, at least he let me have a go, and it was enough.
When I was talking things with the Triumph dealer about the ER6, I made it absolutely clear I was not going to buy anything without test riding it. Luckily he found the way to let me have it, otherwise I would have been posting about my new Hornet instead Laughing

With regards to what you say, perhaps if you push the dealers they will offer you the option of paying a higher excess. The excess he made me pay was a bit ridiculous (£800) but well worth it. It might be that for riders with more years on their license a lower excess is required - I didn't ask, nor did I care, I'm glad he just made it happen for me.

So I have now got the new bike ER6F and I can say the mirrors are usable but not the best. The mirror position of the ER6N is much better than the ER6F.

The ER6F (2012) mirrors are not impossible to work with, Generally you need to glance both to see which one is giving the best view at that time. Like the above post mentioned, you need to ensure they are positioned correctly and this takes a little playing around with.

I also find it helps to take a quick look when cornering. You get a good view when the bike is slightly leaning.

Even though the mirrors are not the greatest I definately recommend the bike,

+1.

The bike is awesome. And a little nod of the head takes care of the mirror issue, I can see fine through both of them. But I have the 2009 model, might be slightly different than post-2010 ones.
