I just got a 130 pound fine from lambeth for being in the bus lane in tulse hill. incident happened 3 months ago when i was a totally unaware of what the sign meant.

What shall i do? Pretend i never read it and carry on riding, also i never knew it was130 pound for riding in a bus lane, thought it would be like 30 pound.

He was riding though.

But no, you can use "some" bus lanes.

Read signs. Government paid far more for your education. Not their fault you can't read a road sign Thumbs Up

Appeal it all the way to the PATAS. Opt for a personal hearing, make sure that the council have provided the evidence and a statement from the operator.

I do think they should decide if motorcycles can use bus lanes then apply it nationally. At the moment it's just on the whim of the council.

The reg not even my personal bike.. it was a courtesy bike that i was riding,.. so lambeth most likely informed the company that they had 14 days to pay x amount or x amount will double... but the company being nobs did not tell me about such a fine until 1-2 months later.. and within that 2 months the first fine has now doubled/ tripled.

That is your grounds for appeal, you should only pay the original fine.

You could try and brass neck it. "I am not and never have been the registered keeper of that vehicle. I have no recollection of that incident. Perhaps if you provide me with your evidence that I was the rider of that vehicle at that time and place then I might recall. You do have some evidence, yes?"

Or just pay it and learn to read road signs. Some of them are quite helpful.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse but it is worth trying it on for the escalated costs through delays that were not your fault.

I do think there should be a nationwide standard allowing bikes to use bus lanes though.

I may just start an e-petition. Smile

First class advice appeal all the way, many council are not set up to respond to request for their side of the case from PATAS, if they do not provide their evidence to PATAS within an allocated time they find in your favour, I got off two bus lane tickets this very way!

You can only appeal to the council first which will then be turned down, its then you contact PATAS Thumbs Up
