Hey there,
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with alpine star gloves? My girlfriend has bought me some new alpine star gloves which look awesome! Her dad and I are just a little worried that they are too thin, they have a carbon fibre knuckle protector but what seems to be a mesh upper on the fingers. They are the smx-2 air carbon glove.
Thanks a lot guys, as always I appreciate your experience.

They are a lightweight summer glove, the mesh is for airflow and weight reduction, only for warm days really, never crash tested them.

I crashed in my SP1s at pretty high speed and they were fine. The extra leather on the palm wore away but the leather of the actual glove was intact.

My newer GP+ gloves are fraying and looking tired already after 8k or so, without crashing. I think the QC has gone downhill in the last couple of years and probably won't be buying a pair of A*s at the bike show this year, it'll be something else.

I ONLY ever wear alpinestar gloves.

SMX-2 is a motorcross glove. I've got something similar which I use for MTB riding to be honest. Wave has a pair which he's used numerous times on track days.

In terms of quality control, in all my gear reviews, I've mentioned that alpinestars has gone down hill dramatically in terms of quality control! Their made in china stuff is hit or miss.

Put it this way, I have 3 pairs of GP Pro gloves (OK, 2 pairs of GP pros and a pair of 365 - effectively a goretex GP Pro). The 365 and black pair of GP pros are fine. The white pair started to let go after less than 10k road miles where the 2nd layer on the palms we wearing through.

But to be honest, nothing fits like a glove better than a pair of A*.
