 Posted: 11:49 - 26 Oct 2012 Post subject: Part 1 Epically failed For The 4th Time |
 |
|
Yeserday morning I failed my Part1 for the 4th time...but at least I ddi it in style... I'm assuming I failed as nobody gave me a sheet this time to tell me what I'd failed on
I binned the bike on the emergency stop, bounced myself face down, then flipped over onto my back and bounced again while the bike went sliding on it's side across the test area!
I've since been to casualty, and I am now the proud owner of a broken thumb complete with red cast from just below my elbow to the tip of my thumb, a broken bike, and broken pride!! I also have the most amazing bruises developing on my right knee and my right arm, and I feel like I've been beaten up today.
Luckily my bike only has a cracked fairing, smashed right front indicator cover and a bent back brake lever. It was ridden back by someone else and is in a lockup awaiting collection hopefully on Saturday. I was removed from the scene of the crime and went back pillion with my instructor. I must admit to bursting into tears all over one of our dogs when I got home, but I can't believe how dreadful I felt and feel today still - it's not as if I hurt myself that much!
Part of the point of telling you all this is to highlight the fact that if I hadn't been wearing good quality leather trousers, gloves & jacket, I wouldn't have much of my right knee any more, and I reckon I'd have broken more bones in the process. I'm peed off with myself about what happened, and accept that I am 100% to blame for grabbing the brakes too hard, but at least I walked away from what could have been a nasty accident.
I'm going to wait until january now before I do any more tests, and think that I'll take the tests on my 125, and ride restricted for 2 years. I'm over 30 so the new bike laws won't affect me too much by the sounds of it. ____________________ Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous. Strangely, you're not the first person to say this to me during the last 2 days... ____________________ Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous. It is, however, extremely unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence or stupidity.

Bloody hell, sorry to hear that. Get well soon!
At least you got to find out the need for braking to be progressive in a situation where you didn't end up under a bus or something.
Just trying to find the positives...
Did you just freak out or what?

wow bet that hurt!
I broke my thumb in May and had to have an operation to reconstruct the ligaments and have a pin put in too. I only got back to riding again middle of september.
Hate to put a downer on you but i think the tests for January are if you take your test on a 125cc then thats it. No more restricted for 2 years. You will only have a licence to ride a 125cc regardless of your age.
You will have to resit test again to go onto a bigger bike so it may be best to just do das.
Thats what i have been told i am sure others will give you more information on this
Take care and glad to see that you have not been put off riding anymore |

I'm so sorry Psychodame, I did promise that if you posted on here there would only be a bit of bike talk before everyone went off on a tangent and started talking about sex.
I can't think what's gone wrong... |

I have no problem whatsoever with the thought of getting back on a bike, and there's NO WAY I'm giving up using 2 wheels.
Depending on when the cast comes off, I'll do my best to pass before the laws change, I can only wait & see really how it all pans out.
I'm an experienced rider, have had 125s on and off for years, and am 100% capable of riding my GPZ 500. The problem yesterday was that I pulled the front brake as I would do on the 125, forgetting that the GPZ has a livelier braking system.
It was rider error, plain & simple, but on the bright side I had the nerves under control which was what failed me the other times!!
PS, I can't physically get back on a bike coz of the cast on my arm, which is a shame coz its a lovely day here today! ____________________ Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous. It is, however, extremely unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence or stupidity.

I was expecing to come into this thread to point out the difference between "epic" and "mediocre".
But actually. Flipping the bike doing an emergency stop under controlled test conditions probably does count as epic. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I have failed Module 1, 3 times, each for stupid mistakes but that didn't stop me riding bikes...in fact it did quite the opposite. When you're nervous for your bike test anything is possible, especially if you're doing it on a bike that you're not allowed to ride on the road yet, so have minimal experience on.
My failures were much less epic:
1: 48km/h through the speed trap before the swerve (46km/h the first attempt). Which used to be a failure.
2. Kicking over the speed trap (on both sides!) because I didn't tuck my feet in. They weren't too pleased about that one.
3. Locking up the rear drum on the YBR on the emergency stop. In my defence the RXS I was used to had much less effective brakes and it was tipping it down.
Got luck on your second attempt! ____________________ Riding: BMW R1150RT `02 bought mildly crashed
Fixing: Also the BMW as I get less broken bits

GWS.
If you miss the January 19th 2013 cut off date, you won't be able to get anything other than a joke A1 license by passing the tests on a 125. A GPZ500 won't be a suitable test bike either: it's too small for the new A3/A and too powerful for the new A2 (unless restricted by one of the DSA's Secret Recognised Specialists).
for spunk, but that was a planned stop, at a known position, on the grippiest surface you're going to find. Reckon you're ever going to be that lucky out on the road?
To satisfy MCW...how much "over 30" are we talking? Pics please, I need to know if you'll leave a good looking corpse. It's for your standard personnel record. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
