Hi guys,

My bike has been doing this for a couple of weeks now but it's getting more common. Basically, when I give the bike a little rev (I mean flash the throttle I.e when downshifting) the engine splutters and doesn't rev properly. The spluttering noise sounds like its coming from the manifold area rather than out the end can.

It doesn't do it all the time and when it does, I flash the throttle again and on the 2nd or 3rd attempt it sorts itself out, and it doesn't do it all the time, just every now and again.
As I said, it only does it when flashing the throttle when the clutch is in or the bike is in neutral. When revving slowly, doing prolonged throttle or whilst in gear there is no problem.

I haven't noticed any other noise coming from the manifold other than this coughing sound. My initial thoughts were fuel filter needs replacing, but cos the sound is coming from the front of the engine I thought it could be something else - air filter? Fuel pump? The manifold itself?

If anyone could enlighten me further on what the problem could be that would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers in advance!

What bike, what condition, any recent servicing (air filter changed / cleaned / full of hedgehogs), spark plug colour(s)?
