Marmalade's "What to do with a Smiler" idea made me think of this, so I'm standing on the shoulders of giants here.

Those of you in some of the regional forums might be familiar with the tagging games in there, where someone will take a photo of a landmark then post the photo on the thread. The next person figures out where the first photo was, goes there, takes a photo of their bike and the landmark, rides to another landmark, gets another photo of landmark and bike, then posts both photos on the thread. Next person repeats the process.

It can be fun, especially when there is a race to get the tag and move it on.

What I'm thinking though is to take it national, but with an object.

I reckon it could be fun to get a nobcat mug, take it somewhere and cache it. Take a photo of the mug where you have cached it, then post the photo and the GPS coordinates onto a thread here on the forum.

Whoever is next gets a photo of nobcat where they found him, then repeats the process - take nobcat somewhere interesting and get a photo of where you left him.

If you do take him somewhere, leave something funny behind for the next person to find - preferably not poo, its sticky and doesn't wash off well when you aren't near a tap.

I'll happily start the ball rolling by buying a nobcat from Marmalade and if we can get Marmalade to print up a bunch of "Nobcat was 'ere - BCF" stickers, it probably wouldn't hurt to include a roll of stickers with the mug, leave one of those stuck to something near where you picked up the mug.

What do you think, anyone fancy it?

I can provide the mug in plastic so it doesn't get broken *when* someone drops it.

sounds ok to me a good excuse to get out, however would it not just get moved around locally rather than bigger distances?
and there are several geocaches local to me which I've been meaning to go and find for nearly a year now and still not got round to it.
would the finder have a certain time limit to hide the mug? say 24 hrs or something?.

.

Maybe a minimum distance could be set from where the previous location was.

I reckon, yeah, a 24 hour limit between pickup and plant, to try to keep things moving.

I think with the tagging, most people pickup and plant on the same ride, which means there are lots of little trips to keep things interesting. Thing with this though, the idea is to keep nobcat moving, so rather than making each drop location difficult, we plant him with the idea of being easy to find if you have the instructions.

Lots of trips mean lots of people can join in and the Where's Nobcat thread can get interesting.

The idea with geo caching is that you hide it somewhere out of sight of casual observers, but which can be found if you're looking for it hard enough.

You give GPS co-ordinates and a more or less cryptic clue about the exact location.
