it was really thick treacle mud and horrible it was on a old passenger bridge over a railway and collected mud and water and was so thick you couldn't even walk in it, it was just easier to get out in first only a little 250 but she did well and every where else in second.

As long as you were not bouncing it off the limiter then it will be fine.

Obviously you were slipping the clutch a lot so that you could get enough torque to pull you through. This will take its toll on the clutch, but such is life with small displacement engines

One thing to watch out for is that prolonged high revs and low speed will be heating the engine up (not so much an issue if your bike has fans) which if left in monitored could blow up your engine.

'Bouncing it off the limiter' with no/little airflow is not good for longevity of an engine no. That said, offroad bike engines have a hard time. All that getting engines hot, then dousing it in icy cold water can't be the best way to treat an engine!

Nothing wrong with a few revvs, but just have a bit of mechanical sympathy and don't keep it totally pinned for long periods. A quick 30 second bit of pain, then a nice cool run when you get clear should all be well within the design specification of an off-road engine!
