Thoughts;

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1987-GPX-750R-Rat-Bike-Bike-of-the-apocalypse-/271091915426?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item3f1e565aa2

Obviously, it's going to need a complete paint job. I'm thinking of something for my next project, as the Suzuki is nearly done.

That's a given Laughing

I was thinking more like 4. Suspect the mileage is a fair bit more than the 25.5k he 'thinks' it is. I think I've seen it around town, and it's not bad sounding.

Why respray it? Looks like it's a pretty well done rat bike to me. Keep it in good mechanical nick and ride it for peanuts!

It's not really a rat bike tough is it?

It's just been painted matte black, with a couple of spray on overlays..

Ok so it is probably closer to a survival bike than a rat bike. But it is quite cool...

As a winter hack or just something cheap to commute on, sure. £400-500 and you're laughing.

To restore, no chance. If the fairings are any indication, this bike has been looked after on a shoe string. How many bodges are you going to find under those fairings?

Went to see it today. TBH it actually seems to be well looked after, and in pretty good nick. When I told the guy I'd be looking to restore it back, he was horrified Laughing Seeing it in the flesh doesn't make it look any more pretty.

I left him with an offer, and told him to let me know when it didn't sell.

As a restoration project, it looks like a bargain to me.

Up and running, a full ticket and 6 months rent, pretty well complete; the only thing wrong is the liberal coating of shit paint, but that's not the end of the world.

If it had been available in a couple of months, I would've bought it Thumbs Up

Exhaust seems to be blowing a bit, so need to investigate it later this week.

https://www.dogfriendlysuffolk.com/bikepics/Kawasaki/Kawasaki-original1.jpg

Looks like it should be an easy job to strip the paint, it's not very thick. It'll be interesting to see what the original colours were, I hope it's black, but I'm guessing red and white.

Here's the rest of the pics;

I'll be starting a project thread as soon as I've had time to investigate further.

This is what I'd like to end up with;

Get rid of that gas mask and then change the light to fit said gas mask into that recess and fill the gaps.

Leave the bike as is after fixing the blowing exhaust.

Job done. Thumbs Up

Good on you for rescuing it from that horrible abusive owner it had that did obviously terrible terrible things to it. Good luck with the restoration, it certainly can't look much worse Thumbs Up

I don't quite get the 'ratbike' obsession with gas masks Confused

Glad it's going to be rescued.

Personally think that is really cool as it is, better looking than standard anyway. Could do with a few mods like cage over the headlight but shame you are going restore. Good luck anyway.
