Side light stopped working... so I decided to check the bulb....

obviously just a case of replacing the bulb but... the .. results of what happened made for a good picture to lol at.

Looks like a halogen bulb that was touched by fingers when fitted. Took a while to burst?

That's a no brainer man.... An alien has been nesting inside the bulb.

Not sure if anyone has said it yet but

When a bulb blows it briefly short circuits and can produce large amounts of heat in the process. That plus a probable flaw in the glass envelope has caused it to melt and sag.
