Couple of pictures of the beast. Not had it that long, seems to feel a bit larger than the cg125 I did my cbt on. Rides great Smile

A small part of me would like an MZ as a commuter hack but I have WAYYYY too many bikes. Laughing

Looks like a really solid bit of kit Smile

There's one of those that's been left to moulder outside, near where I live. I'm sorely tempted to go say hello to the owner, and wave a couple of £20 notes under their nose, to see if they'll part with it.

Do it! To ride it feels a lot bigger than a cg125 and the other newish 125 I did my recent cbt on. Feel a lot more confident on this and it's great to ride Smile

Very, very tempted. Will have to clear it with the Mrs tonight, but given the size of the thing, and the relative economy compared to my two 650s, it might well work (If the damn thing will even run Laughing).

DO IT!!!

Of all the bikes my dad owned I wish he had kept his ETZ 250, fond memories riding pillion back from school in 6in of snow Laughing
thing just kept going and never seemed to rust.

Pretty simple engine really, carbs can be a PITA as with anything but if you know what your doing shouldn't be too big a job if they need work.

Spares site for OP if needed https://www.mzspares.com/

I've recently purchased an '87 ETZ250.

And if it's anything like the 125, I can say that it's quite solid, very comfortable (surprisingly), and, possibly the easiest bike i've ever ridden to slow ride in crawling traffic.

It doesn't have a very good turning circle, but that only really matters when manoeuvring the bike.

The wiring is a bit odd, pretty easy to understand after a bit of examination, but just an odd system due to it's old setup (ie Earth being Brown and Red being live which is a colour key that we in the West at leat got rid of decades ago due to the two colours being indestinquishable to those with colour blindness).

Good ground clearance, so you can mount/dismount pavement curbs without worry of hitting the engine, except the exhaust might get in the way Laughing

And although the rear chainguard/chain/sprocket assembly can be annoying to tention properly, it's ingenious in that the rear wheel is on a seperate spindle to the rear sprocket and only connected with a cushdrive, which makes taking the wheel on and off a similar procedure (bar the drum asembly on the other side) to a single sided swingarm.

Which allows you to take the wheel on and off to your heart's content without needing to align or adjust the chain. Genius! Don't know why manufactures don't continue to do that.

Well, I spoke to the owner of the bike today, and he has no interest in selling or disposing of it. Pity; it's in a truly sorry-looking state at the moment.

The same exact thing for me with a neighbour, he's in his 80's with a ETZ 250 just rotting in the back yard he flat out refuses to sell it very adamant he's going to get it back on the road and thrash the shit out of it (knowing him he likely isn't bullshitting Laughing )
