I see a lot of Ebayers with race scrubs are now selling the 180/60/17 as opposed to the 55, now my speed four is fitted with 55 on the rear, is the extra height going to mess up things or will it be ok?!

I'm considering going with a set of Diablo supercorsas scrubbed instead of pilot 2's as I am a fair weather & the odd track day rider, does this make sense?

What should I be paying for a scrubbed pair of supercorsas max?

I wouldn't overly worry about the '5' difference personally.

And yes, it'd make sense to me.

As for price - the market depends on a lot of things, including time of year, how full people's garages are etc.

So pay the best price you can for a set in decent nick Smile.

I pay £90 fitted for a 120/180 set with between 5mm and 6mm tread all over.

Wanna share your contact? So are we saying between 5-6mm is decent condition, I've seen a lot of sets at 3-4mm
.
Also does the soft nature of these tyres make them more prone to squaring off?!

Yes, definitely with lots of upright miles.
I like the Corsa IIIs (or their replacement) for being a bit better as they are dual compound, with pretty much supercorsa sticky at the side, but a bit longer wearing in the middle.

Ok I might see about just investing in the supercorsas as a track set then, are this dual compound variant also seen as scrubs so to speak or are they strictly from new?! Rival to Michellin PR3,s??

SCs will square off fast, they are gash when cold too.

A tyre I've found that fits in the middle of sticky and miles is the PR2s, Angel STs and the Pilot Power 2CT.

On track I'm going to use BT016R or SC depending on what they have in stock.

The guy I use is local to me, they are on ebay.. I'll see if I can find the link. I only get them cheap because they are local and I do use them often.

Cheers paddy, I have 016's on the bike at the moment (on when I bought it) and the rear is seriously square now as a result of carrying a pillion and uptight miles late in the year I think, I think 2 sets would be wise to avoid this happening again!

I got around... 6k from Pilot Power 2CTs, 2k from SC.

1.7k from a Dunlop Qualifier RR which was more road styled than the SC but had infinite grip Laughing

Do you tend to favour pilot power over pilot road then?

Depends on the type of riding I'm doing.

Commuting the PR2s are great, long life.

The Pilot Power 2CT were sticky enough for really hammering the bike and leaning as far as the bike would go.

Was great fun.

I switched from 55s to 60s mid season on the race bike. Had to alter gearing and shock height. On a road bike it will probably not make much difference and might help your turning in to corners actually.

Theyre a different shape altogether now mind you with much more shoulder so offer alot more corner grip with your knee down. Dont be surprised to have big chicken strips cause ive got a few mm left on mine despite it being a race tyre Mr. Green

In terms of temperature, theyre the fastest warming up race tyre but treat them with a bit of respect when cold. They do need a bit of heat. Cheap scrubs should keep you going for a while but they will definitely square off.

Well I'm narrowing it down,

2 favourites are pilot power 2ct or the Pirelli corsa 3's...

Or do I play the longetivity card and get pilot road 3's, with the only doubt over them is whether or not they'll have enough grip on track?!

This time of year get something a bit more road based IMO.

I have dunlop sportmax on my roadbike and theyre spot on and decent enough in the wet.

Youll probably not be on track for another few months so get a set of scrubs for when the weathers back and the salts gone
