Perfect example, car pulls right out in front of a bike. Could have been alot worse but how stupid can people be. Has happened to me a couple of times and is pretty scarey especially if your going fairly fast and have to brake hard.

Anyone else had a similar experience.

This happens to all bikers on a far too regular basis.
hence the saying "sorry mate didn't see you!"
All you can do is wear visible stuff, always ride with a light on and move slightly away from junctions as you pass them. this way they are more likely to see you, and if they don't you buy yourself a fraction more time to stop or go around.

Happens to me at least once on the way to work and normally two or three on my way home! I usually have a rant to myself and then shake my head when I go past them.

Once I have a bike with more than 11 horses I may well be taking wing mirrors as a souvenir!

Happens often to me on bikes or in cars. Lots of drivers just don't look.
The whole defensive riding idea is that you expect everyone to behave like that and ride appropriately.

i'd say a good 75% of the time i'm out, something along those lines will happen.
most of the time, its boy racers or elderly drivers (who shouldn't be on the road IMO)

I don't get that very often to be honest. On a side note do you think noisy cans make bikers more noticable?

I was doing some endurance filtering on the M60 in rush hour and when i had it in first gear doing alot of rev's cars would move out of the way for me. If i stuck it in 3rd no one ever noticed me till i went past. Has to be the same for people turning at junctions.

If I'm in my car with the windows closed and the stereo on, I won't hear a loud can coming up behind me, or coming towards me.
I hear it going by my window, and hear it going away for a bit, but it doesn't make me notice a bike any quicker.
So I think loud can - arsehole.

If you want to be noticed, ride a loud coloured bike, with a flourescent vest and a pink helmet, and keep your headlight on.
