Hi all

my nephew has just purchased a 50cc scooter from Direct Bikes, hes on CBT and will use it to commute.

hes just tried to get the ball rolling on getting this registered and has been told he needs to have a full bike license to a register a brand new bike here in the uk? is this true? can he not do this on a cbt ?

anyway ive said i would help as i have a full bike license, get it all registered under my name then transfer all ownership to him.

I now need to get the bike insured but as it does not have a registration plate, which insurance companies will insure it by VIN number? and will they do this for 30 days or so?

i have all the ecc certificates etc aswell. so hopefully should be painless!

any advice much appreciated!

Thanks

Here is the information page
You will need insurance on the frame number this may be expensive
One of the costs proper dealers add to the price of the bike
There is no requirement to hold a licence at all to register or tax any bike

Thank you Dave

Sorry to sound like a n00b but is "insuring the frame" same as normal insurance say from Bennets? or is this completely different?

Yes find an insurance co that will give insurance on Just the frame no until the bike is registered
You need insurance to register and tax a bike
Once the bike is registered the Insurance co will need the reg no if for no other reason so it goes on the insurance data base MID

All the faffing about is what I sorry to say you get by buying from the box shifters
I proper dealer would supply 'ON Road' with registration and Tax done
