Santander to Badajoz

So I've got the crazy notion that it might be fun to ride ~400 miles to a festival in portugal next summer. Riding about 50 miles a day would be pretty light riding and not to hard, allowing 10 days each way would probably be doable.

Has anyone done a ride like that in the heat? Bike + gear wise any suggestions? Currently I ride some random old 90's "mountain" bike, of course its not a real mountain bike - just what they seemed to be called back then. No doubt at the very least I'll be requiring a shimano megarange...

When living in Brisbane I cycled in 40 degrees a few times, with high humidity. No problems myself, I like it hot. Just make sure you have a lot of sunscreen and water.
