Has anyone here ever tried/own one:

They dont seem to be very widely available, do they really offer much more protection?

Yes, they offer you a 100% guarantee that they will protect your virginity or your money back.

They probably do a fair job at protecting the neck - but at £2.5k it's a bit of a deal breaker to even contemplate one.

2.5K for that? no thanks.

I have an airbag vest, but TBH I rarely wear it now. And that's the rub, there's no point in spunking money on something that'll sit in a cupboard.

They were, unsurprisingly, developed for horsists, not bikers.

Minor spill --> Airbag deploys --> Bent brake lever, broken indicator and up to £2,500 damage to clothing...

No thanks! Shocked

Maybe I'll buy one in 20 years once the technology has moved on and the price has been slashed.

conversation went as

me: hi, if i add helmet and leather cover and use an airbag suit would that be covered?
them: a what?
me: airbag suit, deploys airbags to protect you in an accident
them: let me ask my manager
me: ok
them: how much does this suit cost?
me: £2500
them: one moment
them: unfortunatly no, we would not be able to cover that

Yea but, what if its a major spill. Then the £2500 doesnt seem so bad considering it has kept your ability to move your arms and legs

(potentially)

Now they're quite interesting.
Although I would definitely, without a doubt, forget to disconnect the cord and activate the thing when getting off the bike.
Although unlike a car's airbag system, the thing can be re-used in such an event. 0.5 seconds to fully inflate is bordering on slow though - I guess it utilises cans of air rather than explosives to activate the bag.

If it's a major spill... what about the arms and legs.... rest of the body?

Would be a lot cheaper to buy a neck brace/collar as it seems they would do pretty much the same job

Looking at the video, it's not going to stop your neck twisting, nor does it even prevent it flexing backwards a fair bit. Still a pro racer gimmick, at that price.

Wouldn't it be cheaper and more enjoyable to just put on a phenomenal amount of weight?

You can buy an entire 25kg Doner kebab "elephants foot" for less than £50. One of them a week should see you reaching your target weight in no time. For the price of that suit you could have yourself over one metric tonne of doner delivered to your door Laughing

I had a string vest and undercrackers but seldom wear them now either.

I hope this helps.
