Just wondering if anyone here has any experience of using a scala rider g4 for real world bike to bike communications (ie a mixture of open roads and country roads) and what kind of range you can expect from this kit in various environments?
I currently have an autocom setup which is used most weekends for bike to bike comms which I'm more than happy with but the scala rider has the added benefit of not taking up any space inside the bike and not having any wires hanging down from your helmet which is becoming more appealing due to the possibility of going touring next year.
The price isn't of any concern as I would then sell the autocom and radios which I already have which would cover the cost of the scala rider kit.

I have two Scala G4 sets, allows me to communicate with the partner when she is riding pillion and if my father, my mother, my partner and I go out, with them on we can all talk to each other, listen to the radio/mp3/phone via. bluetooth etc.
The Scala G4 has a little flip-up aerial on it which increases range and clarity a lot, when my father tested it with me he managed to get about 500m ahead of me on the mountainous roads of the most rural of Wales before it cut out which is fantastic, in clear roads the range is a heck of a lot more too, on the motorway up to a mile easy I believe.
Wind noise is good with a decent helmet, at 100mph cruising with a correctly positioned microphone and helmet speakers there is almost no trouble understanding the person you are communicating with, the charge in it also lasts a heck of a long time too, hours and hours. You charge it from mains with a small micro-usb type wire that comes with it.
When I use it, if I am riding alone I have it connected to my iPhone via. bluetooth with the iPhone in my pocket and music playing, when someone calls me I just press the button on it (side of my helmet) and talk, does the job perfectly. If I am riding with the partner/family I just connect the phone with no music, if you get a call and answer it you are cut off from the other riders so they cannot hear what you are saying unless you press a button to bring them in, kind of like speakerphone. !
In my opinion they are fantastic, work brilliantly, no cables apart from the ones you wire through your helmet for speakers, can't be seen under helmet padding anyway and they have a fantastic build quality, no issues using it in the rain and such things.
I'd highly recommend them, fantastic quality at a brilliant price. ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

Yes it does a 3.5mm jack, but I am unsure if it is an output, never tried. I only ever used it for plugging in an iPod without bluetooth once.
The speakers are fine Chris, you don't even feel them there, they are about 4mm thick, 4cm in diameter and hide in the helmet lining.
I will test it for you later today. . ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

Fantastic!
They really are a great piece of kit, I enjoy having the partner on the back of the bike pounding along the road and be able to have a nice conversation with her as we're riding along. Sure beats silence and it helps with certain things, such as if I am about to overtake a car with a fair bit of power, I just give her a quick heads up, something along the lines of "Hold on, about to overtake", then I perform the manoeuvre and it's done, that way she isn't taken by surprise by anything I do which is reassuring for her.
I wouldn't ride without it now, that's for sure. ! ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."
