I think these are just the basic air cooled 125cc, right?
If so, any bike 10w-40 or 15w-40 oil will do. I doubt there is much point in using an expensive bike oil.

Any basic car oil would probably do as well, but some car oils can mess up bike clutches. Some car oils have special additives which contaminate the clutch plates. Many people report no problems with car oils, but I've never risked it. In your case if you're just buying a basic bike oil you'd only be saving pennies anyway.

...and if you plan on changing the oil soon, and riding through the winter, then 10w-40 would be best for those cold morning starts.

Is the engine derived from a Suzuki? I think Suzuki favoured 15w-40 specification.

Oil changes are the most important factor in engine life. The second most important factor is oil changes, etc etc.

It's another of the 156/157FMI CG-copy engined bikes, 10w40 is absolutely fine.

It is true that certain engines benefit from having a lower quality oil during running in. The piston rings need to wear a bit to bed in properly.

I really wouldn't bother with a fully synthetic oil on a bike like this. A fully synthetic oil will help in an engine that is being worked very hard (say raced), or if you want to clock up >100k without a rebuild.

But you have to ask yourself what will fail first on this bike. It seems more likely that it will fall apart before the engine has any real trouble.

For something like this I'd use a basic oil but change it very often, as suggested. In my opinion they have a very small oil capacity, so the oil needs changing often.

If you're feeling flushed you could use a semi-synthetic oil. Maybe as Christmas pressie for the bike.

[citation needed]

Mototune says run it like you stole it for 20 miles, oil change, done.

Since he rebuilds engines for a living, and has provided a gallery of the results, I'm looking for reasons to not believe him.
