hi lads.first time on this board.maybe ye can help as all the dealers here in ireland are scratching their heads(and arses).
i have a factory restricted fazer 600 and i just passed my test so i want to de-restrict it to a full power 97bhp......the way i see it the restriction is either in the carbs, cdi or both........so....after much soul searching i bought a set of full power carbs from a uk breakers and will fit them in a few days when they arrive......i will fit a new cdi as well as soon as it arrives.........

now...the big question...am i doing the right thing?
is that how they are restricted?
will changing carbs and cdi help me????

any advice would be greatly appreciated
cheers lads
shane

I cant think of any other way they would restrict a 4 stroke except on speed.

Well there is a chance that restriction washers could be welded into the intake ports like on french bikes restricted to 100bhp - if so, its a problem. The washers are made of very hard steel, in a soft aluminium cylinder head, and so they are very hard to remove.

In top gear does it run out of power, or does it feel like the power is just cut at a certain rpm?

If its just on speed then there is a good chance they are restricted like the old rvf 400`s with a copper strip in the speedo.

If it is then you just need to remove the speedo face and bend the strip out of the way but make sure you don't cut any wires.

it feels like theres no more power there after about 7500 revs in 5th................any dealer i talked to said that the bandits are just carb restricted so im working on the assumption that the fazer is similar........i doubt if it has washers fitter as this would affect the whole rev range and not just top gear...................maybe............

An easy way to check for a speedo restriction is to unscrew the speedo cable. Or if it's an electric speedo I'd guess you'd need to unplug it?
