GSX 550 Project

So I went and bought a rusty and crusty GSX 550 off ebay having been out of biking for several years following a nasty one on a K2 1000.

currently having assessed the damage I descided the only way to go is a total stripdown.. At several times throughout the stripdown I contemplated throwing the towel in and parting it out on ebay but I am perservering as the old girl has some soul in there somewhere.

Frame is due to be shotblasted and powder coated in white and the engine is on the bench for diagnostics.
It was a non runner but I got a couple of coughes out of her by spraying fuel down the carb intakes.
There is a lot to do and any advice is very welcome. i reckn I can tackle 95% of it and muddle through with my knowledge. But I have one huge concern that folks out there may be able to help with.
Previous owner/s have hacked the life out of the electrics and left it in a poor state. for some reason the magnito was disconnected and the rec/reg removed. the pickups also removed... strange but someone has fitted earlier points set up that looks like GS set-up then straight wired to the coils and fuses.. my point is this... I have a pair of pickups new rectifier and igniter sitting around. I have ordered a harness also from ebay.. the one thing missing that I cant seem to find is the end crank rotor and backplate set up for the pick ups...
also was wanting to change rear swing arm but dont know what to go for in terms of width restriction... would be nice to get a beefier look out of the suspension seeing as the previous owner has removed all stock linkages in favour of a home brew CBR 600 monoshock and a welded plate on the frame so I cant change the jacked up look ..... all thoughts appreciated ... oh and hello all...new to this as you can see from loooong post .... OH and huge appologies I have posted in the wrong place... I will move if someone knows how !!

Once you have pics, start a new thread in Show N Tell.

The electrics on these are easy enough-you can make a new and much simpler loom using trailer loom from halfrauds or similar. Keep the starter motor wires, battery connectors and earth strap. The rest yo can make up. Will save you a lot of aggro in the years to come believe me.
