all my research shows the rk did indeed have a fairing but getting a replacement would be difficult, i always preferred the nsf to be honest, and as you see from the pictures that is how i got the bike.

the previous owner thought it was an nsf but even still they are almost the same bike anyway, Thumbs Up

Whole bike came up so well except the headlight cowl which turned to shit so fast.

Is that an allspeed exhaust?

Day 8

With the weather as bad as it is today i just really did some inspection of the tank and broken side panel. The fuel tank has seemingly taken the paint ok so i will give a little more of a coat on a better day.

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1706.jpg

So next it is time to inspect the side panel, the main problem is one end has completely broken off this should be easy to fix

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1707.jpg

It also has a large crack half way through in the center of the panel

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1708.jpg

It is evident that someone has attempted a repair that has not worked

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1709.jpg

So i Intend on repairing this tomorrow but today i will prepare it for repair though if the weather is anything to go by i may have to leave it a few days before i attempt to fix it,
Sorry if i am trying to teach granny how to suck eggs here but for anyone who dosn't know how to repair fairings etc i find this the strongest method.
First find the end of the crack and drill a hole in it, this will stop the crack moving any further

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1710.jpg

Next you need to rough up and clean the surface of the plastic, for me i use wire brush on the end of my drill, this tends to gouge out the plastic but also gives my preferred method of repair (fiberglass) something to bite into

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1712.jpg

Finally i V out the crack itself, For this i use a dremil style tool and i try to grind out around 1/3 depth

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1713.jpg

if the weather is better tomorrow i will fiberglass this panel and inspect the others (they have cracks but are not broken) and show the finished product.

Day 9

Still waiting on parts i decided to repair the plastics on the bike, Again sorry if i am teaching granny again but this is my method for repairing panels.

Firstly with fiberglass and resin you need to be prepared as once the resin is mixed it goes off pretty quick, so first thing i do is prepare the fiberglass by cutting the shapes, sizes and pieces i need.

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1722.jpg

You cant just paste it all on all at once as you need to build up strength and make sure panels are straight etc so i start by layering some strips letting it go off layer a few more let it go off, depending on what you are repairing depends on how much you use.

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1723.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1724.jpg

Obviously you don mix up a huge amount of resin, only mix what you need for each bit as you do it, The good thing about resin is it is also a dam good adhesive so i use this for joining the completely broken off section to the main section

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1726.jpg

Then i make sure is is all bonded together by covering the complete aria to ensure it all holds together

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1727.jpg

Due to the nature of the damage to my panel now the repair is complete there is a large gap where a chunk of plastic is missing

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1728.jpg

To remedy this i trim off the excess fiberglass and attach a match stick (all will become clear) to the very edge of the plastic bridging the gap, i then make this section as level as possible and pour in some resin, this then fills the gap and as long as the panel is level enough fills the gap and is as strong as it was before

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1729.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1730.jpg

All that would remain is to prepare the sections for painting and job done, though i wont be preparing i will just slosh on some matt black for now until it comes off the road when i will probably replace the panel

Day 10

Today i had a delivery

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1731.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1732.jpg

A bid off £10 on ebay for the wheel and £20 for the brake shoes and bearings first thing i looked at was the state of the drum and as expected it has surface rust but the condition is pretty good,

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1733.jpg

A bit of a rub down and it made it rather good though still slightly discolored it will be fine once run for a little while

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1734.jpg

So next to the only downside to this wheel, the paint is flaky and it looks like it has been sat out side for a month of sundays

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1735.jpg

I had a "Quick" blast round with a wire brush on my drill

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1736.jpg

Which has left me in the opinion i should sort this wheel properly, any ideas or suggestions i will take on board but i think the best coarse of action is to have it powder coated now ready for its rebuild....... do it once..... do it right.....

Well, if you are going to P-C, then better to get it done before you fit the bearings & seals, so yeah. I'd probably strip & recon the front & send them off as a pair to get good colour match.... but then... knowing me, as I was kneeling down, prodding & poking, I'd be looking and thinking..... "Hmmm... that brake back-plate is going to stick out like a sore thumb on a nicely coated wheel..... better strip & sort that & get it done in same colour.... ah! yes the torque arm... Hmm, I wonder about those foot-rest hangers....... Hmm... wonder whether to get that side stand done while I'm at it?

A pile of parts starts to grow....

Then you get round to taking the front wheel, and you spot the fork jokes...... and the ponder teh fork sliders.... and so it goes on....

And eventually you get to a point where you have a boot full of bits to go to the coaters, and you realise you might as well pull the engine, and get the frame & swing arm off and get the whole lot done in a oner........

Yeah..... the bain of the resto, the domino effect of one refurbished part needing equally tidy neighbour!

lol you got that right but i managed to refrain hehehe

the wheel has gone off i am saving as much money as i can at the moment for the cb's rebuild, but talking to the fella at Y.E.S. who does my powder coating he reckons the frame on the cb is around £90 to powder coat,

should have the wheel back Monday or Tuesday then i can make some real progress

Day11

Well i set myself the task today of finding out what is wrong with the front brake system. The symptoms where good lever but no efficiency. After taking onboard the bcf massive ideas and thoughts it was time to knuckle down and figure it out. To start with was to remove the system from the bike.

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1737_zps5f405a50.jpg

At this point it was obvious what the problem was and how to rectify it, As a reminder when i bought the bike snorty thought the problem was a kinked brake pipe, i thought it was possibly 1-brake pistons seized/seizing 2-slider pins seized to pads and in the thread for advise i also had master cylinder and contamination. here is the problem

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1738_zps38626544.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1739_zps216072a8.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1740_zpsbb49936d.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1741_zps4eacac2d.jpg

As you can see the pad has seized at the slider pins and also the pads have no meat to them, this should be a relatively easy fix with cleaning and new pads and the job should be sorted. as i need to order the pads in i decided to strip the caliper, firstly to check for damage and secondly to check all was free and easy to work with,

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1742_zpscd8bff5e.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1743_zpsa919a55b.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1744_zps52d70577.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1745_zpsf8aed81f.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1746_zps582d3267.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1747_zpsf7f8912c.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1748_zps78bfca4e.jpg

So now i have a list of what remains for the mot and it is not insurmountable.

1-Rear wheel back from powder coating
2-New wheel bearings in
3-Rear brake shoes
4-New brake pads and rebuild caliper
5-Frount fork oil seals
6-Clutch Lever perch (hopefully more on this tomorrow)
7-New numberplate and hanger

For now i will put this away again, and pick up tomorrow.

Cool Project.
One word of advice.

Clutter.

Laughing

For pictures to work more effectively the subject needs to be 'the subject' and not be fuzzed by the peripheralli.

Try to move your stuf to a clear space for any pictures or at least remove the 'background' using a plain sheet or a board.

Not so much anything done but a small update, Now the dreaded Christmas is out the way it time to get this bike on the road. So yesterday i took off the clutch lever perch to inspect it to see if it can be saved,

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1826_zps86cae8ca.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1827_zps19fb9c38.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1828_zpsbbc20cf8.jpg

I also took it to work and one of the engineers there is going to have a look at it before i make a desision on what to do with it,
the main thing that has stoped the flow off work on the bike is the scabby replacement rear wheel, as you can see from the pictures earlyer in the thread a very poor condition so today i went to pick up the freshly powder coated wheel

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1829_zps23f2fc30.jpg

https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q672/Nightshaddow_Barker/DSCF1830_zpsc356e34d.jpg

hopefully now i can make some progress on the bike and hopefully get a bulk load of work done at the weekend.
