Whats the highest road you have been on in the UK?
For me its the B797 to Wanlockhead, around 1600ft above sea level, lovely drive.
Looking for something higher though which can be ridden on on a motorbike, probably somewhere in the lake district?

Off top of my head probably the A93 to Braemar. (I was coming from Pitlochry) Apparently 670 metres (2199 feet) at Glenshee Ski Centre (ref: here). Google Map.

If you're looking for a good bike road I'd recommend the A939. Used to be a good cafe at the Bridge of Brown (see here) but not sure if still there? Not as high, just interesting and a bit of a challenge.

I await a reply from the likes of Stinkwheel who have been all over the UK.

Thumbs Up

England: Killhope Cross (627m) on the A689 is (arguably) the highest and is rather a nice road to ride along on a motorcycle.

Scotland: Glenshee summit on the A93 is the highest (670m). Also good fun but do not set your damping too high or you'll be unable to keep both wheels on the road at the same time.

Wales: Hellfire pass (545m). Never been over it but I will make damned sure I do next time I'm in Wales. I've been within a few miles of it, just didn't know it was there.

I've always fancied doing the Corrieyairack Pass (770m) on a dirt bike. This runs from Laggan to Fort Augustus. It's an ancient military road and is neither paved nor classified (and access to it is restricted).

From what I've found the highest legal public road in the UK is Grasshills Causeway. At least according to this site. Everything else above it doesn't have legal public access. Thumbs Up

Porlock Hill is bloody steep going up too. Shocked

I think that I have been on all the highest roads in the UK and the steepest that you can get to. I ride in the direction and have seen the sign posts to say I have.

I've done the Corrieyairack Pass a few times in Land Rovers. Its a Wade Military road and is quite something but sadly its almost impossible to get access to it nowadays.

I don't know about highest roads, but I've had some bum clenching moments on steep hills...I really dislike them...

Ventnor IOW, Westleaze (I think) Dorset and another was in Nth Devon...actually I think it was Porlock Hill as mentioned before (shudders). Still, I do believe that making myself tackle these hills is an achievement and afterwards I do feel exhilarated.

I`ve been looking these up on "teh net" and they are going to be my targets next year Smile
I get three bonuses with these targets, firstly I get to go back to Scotty-land.
They`ve some quality roads up there, even if the plod are really fond of speed-cameras
Secondly after my recent trips "oop norf" I get to go to Northumberland, I thought the roads around there were good and I`d like a better look.
Thirdly I get into rural Wales and that is unexplored terittory for me.

On the way back from Cromarty to Glasgow (Thursday 15th Nov '12) ; not the highest on here, but high enough as that's probably the coldest I've been on the bike so far!
