 |

As title my lad has found the sump plug for some reason rounded off (who the fcuk does that?).
So need ideas as I'm away at work so not at home to see the thing.
He suspects someone has gone at it putting it in with an air wrench, but I can't see how that wouldn't have damaged the sump.
Now I know the usual tricks of trying to file/dremmel a flat edge or two.
However, is the sump plug steel or aluminium on these things? I know the crush washer is aluminium as original fit. Wondering if steel he could tack on a nut. He's got one of those arc welder kit thingies from Aldi/Lidl and apparently has done the welding training at college (sorry, can't say to what 1000s he's capable of ).
I am thinking of 'phoning the guy he bought it off to see if last service was DIY or from a garage/dealer. May be not much help but might locate the cause.
Replacement plug on order. Why oh why don't dealers keep stock of these useful things anymore? There was a time when you'd ask the man (always a man) and he'd have a think, open a wooden draw and give you what you the part. Not now (another thread for another day).
Other than that any other meaningful ideas? ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

It'll be steel if you want to trust him with the welder. Fairly common to have a sump plug with a much smaller head than the standard for the size of thread and so you see a lot rounded off after they've used a few times. A lot of people can't work upside down and keep the socket/spanner square on the hex so end up chewing them up. ____________________ I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite so sure. |

Thanks for the quick replies.
Apparently sorted once able to get at the plug.
Used an imperial sized socket knocked onto the bolt. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...
