Morning all, my sv650s has suddenly gone from always doing 120 miles to reserve to just 90 miles to reserve. I have changed jobs which means i only commute 5miles each way instead of 30, not sure if this would affect it? Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thumbs Up

It could easily be the change of route. Cruising at a constant(ish) speed always gives better fuel economy than constant acceleration, deceleration and braking.

If you have EFI...

Then previously the fuel mixture would have been much richer [just like running a carbed bike with the choke on] for say only 3% of your old journey,
whereas now its running richer for 20% of the much shorter newer journey until standard fuelling is achieved - assuming the fuel is enrichened for about 1 mile after leaving home.

End result - a noticable increase in fuel consumption.

You should be getting a lot more than that but i dont know how many liter of petrol you are putting in. That will tell us what mpg you should be getting.

But on the other hand yes your new short route doesn't help.

New short route + colder and colder weather each week will reduce MPG a huge amount.

Yeah turning the heater off may save a bit of fuel.
